I work for a Menards (I am choosing to withhold my location, as I am unfortunately in need of this position until I line up a new job).
I feel grossly underpaid - especially compared to several of my friends who work for other retailers in town, who are paid much more than I am, and have far less responsibilities. I was hired by the GM of my town's store, as I had in the past worked as a contractor, and had extensive knowledge of the products I would be selling before I was even hired. He hired me, promising me quick promotions, and raises (as I already knew the products I sold by heart), but then reneged on his promises. He refuses to bump me to full time, promote me, or give me a decent raise (I've had one crap raise that didn't make much of a difference on my paychecks). His reasoning for not giving me better raises, full time status, or a promotion is because I refuse to do "In-Home Training" on tm.menard-inc.com. From what I know of this "In-Home Training", it's nothing more than product knowledge training (which I already have for my department), and other things that should be taught by managers to their staff on company time. I am NOT going to waste my free time to get a better raise, full time status, or a promotion. To make matters worse, I'm working 40 hours a week most weeks, and they still won't bump my status (which I thought was illegal to call a full time worker "part time" just to cheat them out of benefits). I've had it! I'm beyond infuriated. They don't pay me enough to care, and I really have no desire to sell products for them anymore. I'm tired of being expected to take the shaft economically and emotionally, all so John Menard can get even richer. That money grubbing bastard can kiss my hairy white ass! I'm sick of his bullshit!
This company needs to get better at treating their people right. You want sales to go up, John? THEN PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES MORE! You want customers to quit their bitching, John? THEN PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES ENOUGH TO GIVE A FLYING F-K ABOUT THE CUSTOMER! I honestly no longer care!
