Abuse of management

I had been a welcomed member at the Fair Lawn Retrofitness for 4 1/2 years. I enjoyed the intensive workout in the weight room and on the state of the art cardio machines. I also liked the classes, the smoothies of the week specials, and watching the movies of the day. It was also affordable and near my home. The Retrofitness was one of my favorite gyms. The negatives. The horrible treatment and bad business practices of the managers ruined my membership and experience with the Retrofitness. When things went wrong, the managers Andew and Samantha stopped being nice to me. They no longer wanted me as a customer. They turned my positive experience with the Retrofitness into a nightmare. They used their positions against me and unjustly terminated my membership out of malice. They exploited their power and fabricated things about me in order to do it. They did this behind my back and without my consent. No one notified me what was going on with my membership. I was shocked. Good thing I did not return to the gym and found out on my own. Being the gym is privately owned, I could not get anyone to help save my membership. Andrew and Samantha were able to get away with it. I got hurt by their cruelty. Andrew and Samantha humiliated me to the gym. This horror happened shortly after I made another complaint against the rude and annoying night cleaning guy who was stalking me and who also became a nightmare. More than once, he had lost his temper. Management never even cared to apologize for the bad experiences I had with him. There were some incidences at the front desk area and other areas of the gym that had disturbed me about the cleaning guy. The problem with him escalated into stalking and it became repeated. On June 11, when I approached the front desk to pick up my smoothie and pay for it, I was not able to avoid a problem with the cleaning guy. He stalked me again. After I had made another complaint about the cleaning guy, I received nasty emails from Andrew and Samantha. They verbally attacked me, discredited the complaint, scapegoated me and sided with the cleaning guy. They also oppressed me from making any further complaints about the cleaning guy. Assumed that Andrew would get this guy to leave me alone which he had failed to do. When Andrew got Samantha involved, she came after me. Complaining to customer service only made things worse. Customer Service forwarded the complaint to management. It gave them ammunition to use against me and another excuse to terminate my membership. I did not realize that Andrew and Samantha were going to get cruel. They violated the cancellation policies. I was a well behaved member and an innocent victim who just came to the gym to have a peaceful work out. Andrew also started a fight with me when I complained about the language of an American movie being changed to Spanish. He said I would have to watch it in English subtitles. He implied that I was a racist. He embarrassed me to the gym and the front desk. He blew things out of proportion. He got me very upset. I had to go to the locker room just to get away from him. Andrew and I never spoke again at the gym. He no longer treated me as a welcomed member. I did not deserve this horrible and abusive treatment from Andrew and Samantha. They caused me suffering. I have not felt comfortable going back to gym since June 11, but I also did not want to cancel my membership. I had hoped things would cool off. Unfortunately my membership was involuntarily cancelled. No one cared when I complained about it. Beware of the training packages and the bad business practices. Read on the websites that members who signed up for training packages were charged 1400 dollars and got subjected to unauthorized charges. Also read that collections came after members who had cancelled their memberships. The staff told the members that their memberships were cancelled and then they did not put it through. Two members that I recently spoke to said that they cancelled their memberships the way they were suppose to and collections also came after them with a bill. Other members have complained on the Better Business Bureau, Google, and Yelp website about Samantha Lopez's poor customer service and bad attitude and that she was very abusive and nasty. The owner only fired Jackie on the Undercover Boss instead of Samantha.

Ripping people off

Retro fitness in Clementon NJ on chews landing road, is a real joke. Gym been open for close to a year now owner Brian “keeps saying he’s getting TVs put in getting the T. rex set up with the punching bag and more core fitness stuff. Never got anything or set anything up. Always trying customers he’s doing this and doing that but never does what he says he’s doing. But is the 1st person to steal money from customers account over charge them and when you asked about why your being charged he gives you a lie or won’t answer the phone when you call or ask anyone about it. This gym is a joke and needs to be closed down!! No one sign up at this gym Brian only has 500 customers he can’t stay in Business with that many customers.. people every one watch your bank accounts with this guy!!!

Retro Gym Closed

I joined Retro Bellmawr, NJ about 4 months ago because it was within walking distance of my home and just convenient . As I work in PA over an hour away and sometimes have to attend emergencies , having that security that I was never that far from home was the sole reason I joined this gym , There are several other gyms located in the area and at the same price . I was just there last week and spoke with the staff about adding someone and possibly upgrading my membership . They told me the systems were down so they couldn't right then to try back tomorrow . The very next day the gym closed . I received 2 emails one saying they were just closed and then an hour later saying that they were permanently closed . I called the customer support number that they gave for help . It was cooperate office and they didn't even know the gym had closed . My account was transferred to the Cherry hill location . If you are familiar with the south jersey area , getting in and out of cherry hill is no easy or quick task . This gym is the exact opposite of why i signed up for this gym . It is not close or convent for me , and getting there during the Holiday season is even worse . I called the cherry hill office and a rep told me I had to wait 3 -4 months to cancel and still be charged and there maybe additional fees as well .., Like WTF !!!! This is ridiculous . It was not my fault that the owners were not able to keep the gym open but the members are the only ones getting punished .They closed and you basically are robbing me of my money for a gym that I didn't chose and cant make it to . I will never again refer anyone to this gym if this is there practices .

Retro Gym Closed

I signed up for Retro in Bellmawr about 4 months ago , because it was with in walking distance of my house . I work in PA and am often having to respond to emergency , so having the gym so close and convenient was at the sole purpose of me joining that gym . I went last week and noticed that things were moved around a lot . The staff told use the computer and cable systems where down . I though nothing of it .I even spoke to them about adding someone to my account . The very next day the gym closed and transferred my account to cherry hill . I call corporate which was listed on the email sent out and they weren't even aware that it had closed . Now they are telling me that I cant cancel my membership . If you are familiar with the area getting to and from Cherry hill is no walk in the park with traffic , especially with the holiday season . A Rep from the cherry hill Retro told me I would need to keep the membership for 3 months before i could cancel , and that may still have additional charges . This is unbelievable and makes me regret even using this gym . I will never refer anyone to this gym again if this is the way that they work .

cancellation of membership

i am from woodbridge, nj. and is signup in retro fitness not a membership .when i signup the manger of club give me wrong advice. i say to him i don't wana mebership. 1year contract. i wana just pay monthly. but this happen misunderatanding. so right now when i visit to club to cancel they say you can't cancel your mwmbership. so i wana cancel membership beacause i am move to newyork.

Cancellation scam

When I sign up with Retro Fitness in Hackensack location its took me 5 minutes to sign up but I have physical issue that's why I cannot continue to my membership I like to cancel. So I speak with the manager she Don't know Me any more. I asked for help she ignore me. When I told her if you don't help me I put review on social network that time she know me she running like she try to help me. But she is very unprofessional person. By the way I look at the review business consumer it's really bad. even I have health issue and doctor and hospital paperwork but still they are forcing me to pay entire year membership cost $400 to $500 Bill. also they send me to the collection.

membership

I joined with retro fitness for my summer vacation of Bordentown NJ. and then I requested to cancelled due to I joined college for way. They did not cancelled but freeze the account and calling us to pay , we request personally as well as e-mail to account dept. to cancelled my membership but we did not get any response and another year aI get a letter from a collection agency. I don't understand how a business has to shake people down for their money dishonesty to stay afloat and why hasn't anyone done anything about it.

Cancellation of Membership

I tried many times to cancel my membership, since its been a year, by calling and talking to the staff in person, but they refuse to. When I downgraded my membership from that with classes to without, they didnt specify that it will adjust my membership to another year. And the worst part is when the Retro Fitness management and ABC Financials kept on passing me to either one. I was explaining to them that my new work schedule wont really allow me to go the gym anymore, plus some domestic trips every now and then. And they said that only acceptable reason is a death in the family, and round trip ticket that shows that you'll be out for a year.

How can i have refund? Retro Fitness is not fair and very unreasonable.

They refuse to cancel my membership

I had called to cancel my membership and they refuse. To cancel they said that I had I wait until a year in order for me to cancel and that to cancel right away I have to pay 274 dollars of which i do not have I really would like to cancel this membership cause I have A bad feet that is swollen and that I have cellulitus and that I also have a death in my family and this is ridiculous I had never signed a contract in person to know that I have to wait a year to cancel cause my contract was a year and I never was told online that I have a year contract cause I had signed up online not in person abc financial can u please help resolve my issue cause retro fitness is not being fair to me right now cause if I known that it was a year contract I would never signed up

Retro fitness

I signed a one year agreement with retro fitness of Bordentown and then did another year and cancelled my membership. I stopped going and was still getting charged after my second year was up. So I stopped payment on my bank card. Next thing you know I get a letter from a collection agency for $164. I figured I would look online to see if this happened to anyone else and I stumble upon many letters just like this. I don't understand how a business has to shake people down for their money dishonesty to stay afloat and why hasn't anyone done anything about it. I hope the next person who decides to work out here reads these comments so they know what they will have to face when they decide they want to ssve money and work out at planet fitness instead.

Sent all the paperwork but they still charged my credit card the monthly fee. Totally screwed up, I will never become a member of this place again and will go out of my way to inform the 500 families in our local little league to stay away.

BAD EXPERIENCE

My complaint against Retro is: first you moved without any notification on your new location. Had to find out when I happened to stumble across the location driving in that area. Second, I gave you excess to charge my account every month, other charges were coming out......denied excess!!!!!! Third, this was a great gym at one time, but now, its about money.....I have been trying to cancel this membership for a few months, letters keep getting lost or never received them......Just tired and want out!!!!!!

Cancellation

I had been a member for over 5 years having auto monthly payments of $21.39 . A number of weeks ago I called them to say my bank account had been hacked and that I was forced to change ALL of my account info and was calling them to change my recurring monthly payments. At that time the lady on the phone told me that it couldn't be done over the phone and I had to come in person. Well I couldn't because I had a family emergency and was away taking care of it. Then I get a threatening email that I owe this money or else my account would be turned over to collections and ruin my credit. After all these years that's the treatment I receive no warning, no understanding. Well I called to explain 9/23/16 and a very nice lady "Danielle" told me I had to write a letter in order to cancel my membership. Well I am writing this complaint email first. Also, I have been paying each month and haven't been to the gym in over a year, so they've been taking my money anyway. Just saying so I believe I should be able to cancel and owe nothing. retro fitness cancellation

We are moving out of state where there is no Retro fitness. Called to cancel membership, was told we had to come in to do it and if we had to come in to cancel it before the 4th or we would be charged for another month. We took the time to go there to fill out necessary paperwork and was told since it is within the 12 months we needed something to show we were moving out of state. Fair enough but would have liked to be told that when we called. So we had the contract on our phone, asked if that would be sufficient, answer yes. So my husband went to the car to get phone and we located it only to be told now that we need to print it. Asked if there was a wireless printer- No- asked if we sent to her email if she could print it..-NO-. Really? Ok, now I am sick and it was a lot to get out to begin with then you have us jumping through hoops. Asked if I could just sign my name so I didn't have to come back, my husband would and he can complete all info...NO.. So went home wrote a letter for each of us, dated and signed, a copy of the contract and my husband went back again. Now we did that she tells us...we still are going to be charged for the next month. REALLY, You got to be kidding me. How long does it take to cancel a membership... Not acceptable at all.

They do whatever they can to suck your money out of your pocket. Sign up nice and easy online but don't bother to cancel.. Would not recommend them at all

Cancel Membership

I've sent an email to Retro Fitness since last year in regards to cancel my membership. I haven't been there in over a year. Finally I went back yesterday 4/18/16, it is the worst place to be. When I started going to Retro Fitness it was a nice place with a wonderful staff. But now you have young people working there and the place has just gone to hell. I was changing in the ladies locker room and one of the customers had there son come in while women were changing. He look about 10 years old, he is not suppose to be coming into yet alone having access to even be in the area of the gym. I just want my membership cancel, it's not how it use to be and I refuse to spend another penny there.

I was told to e mail retro fitness for cancelation .I been a member a year already now I want to canceled so here I am writing .my name is Teresa Garcia 605 Harrison ave. My bank card is not on file because the bdnk send m e a new card ..so please bill me for this month with the cancelation fee...it may 15 2015 by due day was thy he 14 of may 2015 ....that how I new the bank sending me a new card ..so I am not going yo give it to retro...have them billed me....

Monthy Overcharge

I have been a member of Retro Fitness for years in Newark Delaware. I have the option of auto debit from my account, which I regret and will be changing as well as cancelling my policy with Retro since I am thoroughly dissatisfied and have moved to Florida anyway. I will be cancelling my bank account so that there is no longer access. My membership is $19.99 / month, which from 8/14-1/15 (6 months) comes to $119.94. My checking account has been charged 6 times for a total of $231. 44, which is $111.50 more. I am extremely disappointed and in reading other complaints about Retro and ABC Financial, I am not alone. I am going to contact the Division of Consumer Affairs, the Local News Paper, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Bureau of Consumer Protection. I have been a loyal member since this branch went from Gold's to Retro. I never had these problems with Golds and I have tried to reconcile the problems and freeze/cancel my membership with Retro, because I am 1000 miles away, and I have never been helped. I understand that there could be miscommunication between Retro and ABC financial but unfortunately it seems to be at the member's expense.
