calling the wrong person???
We started getting calls from Global earlier this Spring. They spoke to my wife stating that they were calling regarding some gas bill from a company we never heard of. The thing is, we never lived in a house or anywhere where we would've had gas service. Just apartments and condos. Our current residence is the first time we pay a metered service and have never missed a payment (since it's preauthorized since day one, and it's been less than a couple of years)
They always ask for [first initial] [last name]. While this would match my wife's name, it's clear that they don't know what the first initial even stands for. Plus, towards the end, the final messages from Global stated that they have tried to contact [first initial] [last name] by phone and by mail. Well, we've never received anything in the mail. On a couple of occasions, when working from home, I had gotten live calls from different people asking for "J". I simply answered "there's nobody named 'Jay' here" and they'd say thanks and hang up. But we'd still get more automated calls and a repeat call from a live person again in a week, asking for 'J'.
After a couple of days of no calls, we got two automated ones from ARC then one from a live person. So it looks like this was passed from Global over to ARC.
These messages are always on our answering machine as we are never home when they call. I'm wary of speaking to them on the phone and giving any of our personal information to help them focus their wrongful harrassment, but don't know what to do at this stage. We've checked with Equifax and there is no indication of either an outstanding debt, or identity theft of any sort.
Would appreciate any advice...
