I booked a 9 night stay on booking.com at the 5 star Sugar Beach Hotel in Mauritius. It was my husbands birthday so I wanted to spoil him. We arrived tired that evening to the hotel the sugar beach only to be told that they are fully booked and that they would move us next door to their sister hotel which is a 4 star hotel. I told them that I paid for a 5 star and that I was not happy to be moved. They said they were full and that was my only choice and that they did not take the money off my account yet. Knowing this I said it’s fine I would go and book another 5 star hotel next door. The next morning I called my bank and they advised me that the payment had already come off my bank account. I called booking.com to complain they said the booking was done with their travel partner Agoda who should have made sure the hotel had space but that they would write to them for a refund immediately. It’s now 3 days and I still don’t have a refund and I have been paying for another hotel out of my own pocket. No one can help me with this everyone is passing the blame. Please be cautious when you are booking on your own. The money will come out and you will be stuck without help in a foreign country. My husbands birthday has been spoilt he is so stressed about the money and can’t enjoy his birthday. Sugar beach has such a bad attitude they don’t care. They blame everything on Agoda. Booking.com says they need to wait for Agoda so I must pay for my accommodation until then. So they not helping me either. Agoda the one who has the money now is all silent.
