I am also having A/C issues and have been experiencing a nightmare with these 2 companies. The invoice I receive as a summary did not match what was submitted to American home shield. The summary suggests that everything that was tested working fine but because of age (temperature does not go below 75 degrees) the system needs an upgrade. Back and Forth back and forth then I am told that there was no recommendation for upgrade and would NOT agree for me to send them invoice i received. After the 3rd tech came I have him on record saying that he can submit a report, but the higher ups can override the recommendation. Call back upgrade department and I am told point blank they do not do A/C upgrades but I can get a special deal from United Air. I smell something fishy between these companies.

Although I have A/C covered in my plan, they have flatly denied the upgrade and want me to go into the company assigned to fix the problem
I think there is a conflict of interest happening here

My AC Unit was running less efficient and probably needed a recharge. I asked AHS, as I pay them more than $500 a year for everything in my home.
They assigned United Air temp for the. These people didn't schedule any visit for 2 days, when the temperatures were record high. Then they came (on 4th day) and without seeing anything the technician said that I had a leak in the coil. He made some trips from my Attic to Lower floor (not sure why). However After 30 minutes when I tried to go back, I saw a person pacing away from my house with an equipment in his hand (not the technician that came to my house) later I was told that he was a 2nd technician who walked to my backyard from outside without letting me know. Then they tell me that a coil repair will cost me 1800+ out of pocket so better I should buy a new uni from them at 6000, and forced me to say yes to the unit without seeing any specs. I declined. They threatened that the repair will take more than 15 work days. 4 days of trying to seek help from AHS on the matter and learning that AHS was the co-conspirator in this whole scam. putting me on 30-40 minute holds before disconnecting if I complained.
I called another HVAC professional, who told me (A) AHS never touched the coil, didn't even open the covers to check so could have never known any issue with coil. (B) The piece of equipment that the unannounced technician was running away with was the recovery unit that they use to siphon R22 from units while repairing , so American Home shield 2nd technician Stole R22 from my partially working unit and made it totally dead. (C) When I raised this to AHS they put me on another hold, it is already 50 minutes and counting on that hold. (D) AHS called UAT and found that their reports DO NOT show a 2nd person assigned to my house, so the guy was there with no proof in the system of his being there, no wonder any theft can not be proved if they didn't even agree to have sent him. The amount of R22 stolen from my units can cost any where between $900-$1200 (@ $150/ LBS), hopefully they did not steal from my other unit. (E) They left (by mistake) dusty foot marks in my mechanical room, where my 2nd zone HVAC unit is (which had no issues) not sure why they went there, I just found that they were there after they had left but they claimed to have not even gone near, again I don't have a recording to prove them wrong.
Another call to AHS and they claim to not trust any of my words or the fix provided by my other contractor. They have no answers from UAT when they called to check this.

After United Air Temp installed my air handler I was told I needed to purchased a heater package which was not included.they wanted to charge me I believe $900.00( I have this written on their receipt) I called CroppMetcalf and was told the heating package was with the unit, and only needed to connected which they did for $110.00 This co. is all about getting your money plain and simple. I have good documentation and is waiting for the day when they make the evening news for ripping people off. That's when I'm going to call that news station and hand it over to them, they will eventually get caught.
