Unlawful Business Practices and Online Code of Conduct

I have been trying to get to the bottom of a bunch of emails I keep receiving and am unable to unsubscribe from. Over two months, I have been bamboozled by dodgy online practices by this organisation AMC Theatres. I do not live in the States and I NEVER signed up to this.

On 18 April this year, I started receiving regular emails from AMC Stubs, the first, congratulating me as someone named Kaylee for becoming a member. "Welcome to AMC Stubs Insider™! Now you can enjoy all the rewards, including a FREE popcorn refill per purchase,* up to $2 off tickets every Tuesday,** and a $5 reward every time you reach 5,000 points (earn 20 points per $1 spent). I replied to this asking who and what the heck it was about, and received a reply saying: Dear Lisa, thank you for contacting AMC Stubs Guest Services. We apologize for any inconvenience, however for security purposes and member privacy, we are only able to release account information or take actions on accounts solely for the registered AMC Stubs account holder (the person whose name and information appears on the account). If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us at www.amctheatres.com/contact/amc-stubs or call us at 1-888-562-4262. Sincerely, Myra Hudson AMC Stubs Guest Service

This is dodgy because I forwarded this email to Myra from the same email it was sent to, so this was some kind of fobbing off. My email bounced back saying [email protected] (the email she wrote from) cannot receive emails: This email address cannot receive emails. Or, to speak to someone right away, call 1-888-562-4262. Thank you!

I have tried unsuccessfully to speak with someone through both these options but it has proved impossible. What's more, in attempting to do this, I have been subject to more unsavoury practices from this company, for whom integrity is non-existent. I have only attempted to contact them in order to unsubscribe from all emails and to make a complaint. This has not happened yet.

When I click "unsubscribe" in the body of the email, I am taken to the AMC website after a VERY long time. I assume they are loading up cookies and things on my computer. Then I get to a screen with several popups. The first is asking to use my location and will not allow me to close it without saying yes or no. The second popup is asking me to choose from five communication preferences but has kindly (note sarcasm) ticked four of them by default and when I try to uncheck one of them, I have to wait again for some time but then I close the cross on the top rhs and the window closes. I noticed a red button that I did not press so I have NOT submitted those options by choice. I go to the contact page and see a number but a third window pops up offering to show me "the most popular features you can take advantage of" on the site. The cross doesn't work now so I cannot close the window without choosing an option, so I choose No Thanks but it still won't close. I try several times but it seems that the only way to close the window is by choosing Let's Go. I am feeling bullied and very angry that such a company thinks they can get away with this. I will forward you the email too so you can follow this process, but not until I hear back from you and know that this is being looked into. This is a serious matter and I trust that you will address it as such.

I tried calling the number, after repeating previous steps and taking a screenshot before the window popped up again. I called the number several times and it kept saying it was busy - the time was 10AM in Atlanta and the number is 888 562 4262. I finally got through and was told "this number is not in service" then "this call will be recorded" and silence. This thing gets weirder by the minute. You HAVE to investigate these crooks.

I want out of this but I cannot unsubscribe. I also want to know how they got my details, and I want to retract ALL permissions for the use of my data by AMC and their affiliates. This online bullying is ILLEGAL and harrowing. Since April, I have received more than 30 emails from AMC and I have held onto all of them because large corporations need to know that this is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Please help.
