2 electric recliners still under warranty.
I purchased 2 electric recliners at $599.00 each. Both chairs pealed on the arms and head rest. I live alone at 78 years old and on a fixed income. These chairs were not over used by any means. The man they sent out to check them asked if I used the cleaning polish they gave me. I said yes I did. He asked if he could see it. I gave it to him and hHE sId "I'm sorry but this has expired." I asked if he was going to replace them as they were still under warranty. I purchased them 1 1/2 years previously. There was a 2 year warranty on them. He said, "no, you should have used polish that was current." What a lame excuse to get out of their responsibility. I'm considering on setting the chairs in front of the store in Westland, Mi so people can see the junk they sold me. $1,200.00 is a fortune to me. I know I'm going to need a lawyer, but I also want to advertise my experience with ART VAN. They belong in three Hall of Shame!

delivery personnel
delivery guys came out a second time to bring my unit wall's bridge and mirror since the first one delivered was cracked. There shoes was soaked with rain and dirt and refused to remove shoes and claimed they had ran out of booties to cover shoes. I have brand new white carpet in my living room and wasn't going to let them walk on it with dirty shoes. I called the store manager and he advised them to place mats down on the floor. The delivery guys came up with every excuse( it made fade onto my carpet, its difficult to move furniture with mats down). The shortest guy was huffing and puffing the entire time. I said to him, you have an attitude problem. He complained of his back hurting and this job was tearing up his back (excuse me! this is your job, perhaps you need to re-educate yourself to secure the job of your choice. After placing the unit wall on the opposite wall(they didn't want to move), I asked about the shelves being placed since I did pay 100.00 for delivery and setup. He stated, I could do them myself and refused to open box with new mirror to check for any damage since this was the second attempt at getting my purchased mirror. He told me again, I could check it myself, refused to plug in cords to ensure wall unit lights were working properly. He suggested I could have my sons or my husband to do this for me. Total lunatics representing Art Van's, lazy and unprofessional. I cant see myself ever shopping there again.

Terrible Customer Service
I was a loyal art van customer who purchased a dresser last year. The dresser had a defective drawer where the front began to chip/peel off. I called while in warranty to have someone look at it and they did not correct the issue. I called again to follow up and was told they would have someone else come and look at it. By the time a technician actually came the warranty expired and the technician instructed me to call the same number again. The representative I talked to was very argumentative and disrespectful, she refused to let me speak with a manager and told me that I was the cause of the damage. This is type of behavior is uncalled. I only want my dresser fixed can anyone please assist me in a fair manner.

matress substitution
After sleeping on king sized beds while on vacation, my wife and I decided it was time to move up from a full-size to a king size bed at home. Our mattress system was a Stearns & Foster (S&F) ultra-firm, so we visited the local Art Van Furniture Store in Royal Oak, MI., wishing to purchase the same setup in king size.
We were directed to take the 'sleep test' at which both of us acknowledged we preferred the firmest mattress setup available.
We were not shown various grades of S&F mattresses, but taken to the salesman's desk area where our purchase was written up, we paid by check, and had the new bed system delivered later that week. We were assured by the salesman that we would be completely pleased with our purchase.
As I was suffering from medical problems at the time requiring corrective surgery, neither of us noted the lack of firmness (less than what we had expected) of the mattress system, but noted on delivery that the box springs and mattress were labeled as S&F brand.
Within months, we each began to notice back discomforts, but did not contact Art Van as we did not realize we were not sold the bed system we had requested.
We ultimately purchased a new S&F bed system from a different local retailer, this time verifying what firmness we required and had the old S&F bed system purchased from Art Van hauled away. At that time, the old system was only a few years old.
The new bed system (box springs and mattress) cost more than $2,000.

BROKEN IN THREE MONTHS
I bought the sofa and love seat with extended warranty. I tried to scoot back and I heard a cracking sound, next minute the sofa is broke in the corner. I called the service/repair, the guy was terrible, from the beginning he saw the sofa he said OH its not covered. You guys broke it . I tried to explain him, what happened. he says NO this is your fault, you used "force". I said, I have to use force to lean back,(it is power reclining sofa) I am not even heavy. this is a manufacturing problem or you guys delivered a defective sofa which was already week. Then he wanted to do a courtesy repair, he wanted to take the half apart of the sofa and leave the another half part in the half way, he wants to bring the quarter part after a week or more. I said' I can't have a half a sofa in my hall way/living room and wait for more than a week . He packed up his stuff and said " pay $ 200 we will fix the broken sofa, he walked away from the house. I called the service " they said the same pay for the service. We are not responsible for what the people said when you bought the sofa. They can say anything they want. But we wont repair since it is not manufacturing problem.

Art Van Furniture
In December 2013 I bought a bed frame and mattress from the 14 Mile Store. In late April 2014 I was moving the bed literally half a foot and the frame connecting to the headboard cracked. I called Art Van to come out and replace the frame and the person that came out to my house a month later told me it was not covered under the warranty. I had to order the part and they would call me when it arrived. I had to prepay for the part and then if I wanted it installed I had to pay from that cost as well. I did pay for both and waited and waited and waited. No calls, no follow-up NOTHING. Finally in September I called the store and they told me the part arrived and I scheduled the installation for 2 weeks later. When they came out to the house this time it was unbelievably the WRONG PART - it was for the footboard not the headboard. They re-ordered the part in September and would call me when it arrived. I called mid-October, still on order and I called again in December (as no one called me again) and now they tell me it might arrive in February. That will be 10 MONTHS - no calls, no attempt to provide me a replacement frame, nothing again. Service really, really horrible. The operator was trying to convince how it is so out of their ability to do anything about this messed up situation. I am so unbelievably shocked how poorly this whole issue has been handled. Not once did a management person call me, try to make this problem better, find alternate solution. I have shopped and bought furniture at Art Van for 25 years, but I will never again set foot inn Art Van and will encourage everyone I know not to shop there. They really don't give a damn about the customer or what I am experiencing because of the poor quality of the product.

Art Van Sleep to live - HaHaHa
This mattress is absolute garbage and Art Van is an insult with their 'warranty'. The upholstery is elasticized so it stays tight across the mattress but the core of the mattress is mush in less than 2 years. I only weigh 175# and I'm sleeping in a sinkhole.
They measure to see of the upholstery has a dip of more than 1.25" which it won't because of the elastic but underneath, the core of the mattress is mush that will sink 6"+ with ANY pressure. Now to throw this $1,600.00 mattress in the garbage & find an ethical retailer that sells a quality product and doesn't have a scam warranty.

ART VAN Kings Down Sleep to Live Bed
I went to Art Van To look at and possible buy a king size mattress for our new platform bedroom outfit. As we were looking a sales lady had us lie down on a twin that was hooked to a computer, I Guess. I told her I need a really firm bed after both my partner and I did the so called test she said we both need the 500 series kings down bed. What a sham!! We spent 2000.00 dollars on that mattress, I know shame on me for spending that much, but I was hoping to get a bed that would last and that I could sleep on. Here it is a little over a year later and we are sleeping in our spare bedroom on out 10 year old Denver mattress. I called Art Van and told them that we were sinking into a hole at night and waking with terrible back pains. I even spent moneys going to the Doctor thinking I had did something wrong with my back, all tests were normal. Finally I woke one night and went to spare room, No more back pain. Art Van sent a guy out to check the bed, since we were suppose to have 25 year satisfaction guarantee warranty. This guy took a string tied to a plum-bob, a plum-bob is a solid piece of steel that is pretty heavy, this one was about 1 inch around and about 4 inches long. anyway he hung the plum-bob off one side of the bed and took the string across the other pulling it tight, you could see the sting digging into the matress. Then, I couldn't believe it, he took a sponge with no weight to it at all and barely laid it on the bed, almost like he was trying to get it to float. He did this in several places and only got 1 inch in depression. I was surprised he got that with the way this test is done. WHAT A JOKE!!! he told me it had to be at least 1 1/2 inches to be warranted. Needless to say I was very angry. After he left I put my laser level on it and was getting 2 and 2 1/2 inches all over the bed. I received a call from Art Van about a week later and the lady on the phone just kept saying sorry there was nothing they could do. She was rude and the phone number she was calling from wasn't even from this area, it was out of state. What ever you do DON'T BUY FROM ART VAN AND KINGS DOWN SLEEP TO LIVE BED IS THE WORST BED EVER MADE!!!!! I am a small business owner in the area and I am spreading the word.

Terrible service
We bought a leather couch from Art Van along with the lifetime warranty in 2007. Within the first 6 months the color and dye was wearing off. Called service and they came out and replaced the seat cushions, but said this was a courtesy only. Well, the color has worn off again, and service came out and refuses to do anything about this problem. Told us that it is normal wear and tear. A leather couch should last for years. My kids have a leather couch that we gave them and it is at least 15 years old. No problem with the color. I am very upset with Art Van for not taking care of this problem and it looks as they are selling inferior furniture that they won't stand behind. They have my money and now the *** with the customer. Never buy another thing from them, they have lost their INTEGRITY.

Terrible service
It's all about making money for Art Van...quality and customer service have gone out the window. I ordered a "low profile" box spring from Art Van to help shorten the height of my bed after getting new bedroom furniture from another company (thank God). I went in, clearly stated what I wanted, the sales lady ordered it for me, and off I went. When I went to pick up the box spring with 2 friends of mine, it looked a little thicker than I had expected, but I didn't think too much of it. We got it home and realized it was actually the same size as the old one. When I called to make them aware of the problem, the sales lady got a little snippy with me and blamed the whole thing on me saying that I never stated I wanted the "low profile" box spring. I know what I said and told her she was the one who entered the info wrong, not me. She said she would reorder the item and call me later that day to follow up. She never called back that day, and when she finally did, she left a message on my machine saying, "I found your number in my pocket and knew I had to call you but I don't remember why." Seriously?? When I called her back, I requested that she give me free delivery for all the trouble, and she simply said, "they don't do that." Finally I went to management and after hemming and hawing with him, he finally gave in and told me it would be delivered free of charge. Pretty sad I had to actually ask for it. A company who truly knows how to do business and cares about their customers would have gone out of their way to "right" their "wrong." Apparently, Art Van is not one of them.
