Fraudulent insurance quote - aspen dental

In February 2018 my Mom went to Aspen Dental to get her teeth pulled and dentures (unfortunately they were the only place we could find to accept her insurance). I went with her the day of consult. That day we were told that insurance would pay $4500 of the dental cost and our balance was around $6000. I financed the $6000 that day through their credit company.
My mom has since received a bill for the $4500.
My mom called Aspen and they kept telling her that they were resubmitting the claim to the insurance company. After being told this several times my mom called her insurance company. The insurance company pulled the phone records and said they never told Aspen they would pay $4500 toward the bill.
My mom is now being told the $4500 is being sent to collections by Aspen. Also, the last several times that my mom has went to the office visits she told them that her lower gum was hurting and it felt like something was in it. The dental assistant got rude with her and told her that it was a bone spur and it would work its way out and the dentist would not come in to look at it.
We both went in and talked to the office manager about the $4500 and also my mom had a bone spur or part of a tooth left in gum she was told the dentist refused to look at it because it was a bone spur and would work itself out.
We were told that the insurance paid $110.00 and that the $4500 was actually a discount through the insurance company but she would have her district manager call me on 7/30 or 7/31 and that they would block bill from being sent to collections.
I never received the phone call from the district manager but my mom received an email from the manager stating the insurance is not going to pay the $4500 and that she is responsible for the balance. Unfortunately we are still in the process of getting my moms permanent dentures.
This has turned out to be a nightmare!! I would not recommend Aspen dental to anyone! It's a horrible scam of a company.

assembly line type service without care

Retired last year, and on Medicare. Had to find a new dentist - many dentists do not accept Medicare Senior insurance. Contacted Aspen because it was close to my home. Worst mistake ever! I had dental issues, and have and had been working to take care of things. Aspen did the complete x-rays, saw that I had two cavities, and said I needed the deep cleaning. That was acceptable to me, and I financed the expense which would have been under $1,000 and I would pay it off in 6 months. The other work needed normally would have been covered, but without realizing it, I had the work done three weeks before the 6 month waiting period was over. When I found out I owed them more, I had to finance more. I complained to my insurer and they said I should have read page 106 of their information, and I hadn’t. In the past, my dentist would send the recommendation of work to the insurer and they would say covered, or not covered. I asked the people at Aspen about that and why they didn't ask me that ahead of time, the response from the office manager was "most people are in so much pain when they come here, they don't care about cost". Well, I am on a fixed income and I do care. I am saying this so other people will know! The worst was I went for my second filling, (the first went well and I was told I would have the same dentist for the next filling) and felt the pain after two shots of novacaine, and a gel, and another shot. They were looking at me like I had done something wrong. The person doing the filling asked if I was nervous, and I said I wasn't until now! Filling a tooth when you feel EVERYTHING is very, very uncomfortable. I felt sick to my stomach when I left. I learned that a cup of flouride, maybe an eighth of a cup of flouride treatment would cost $50. I was told I would have to pay that for my next appointment. That was when I said I would never go back.
These people do not care about their patients. This is a chain store and nothing more than that! I have to wonder if they work for Dental First, their company who finances costs not covered by insurance - Aspen was very quick to say it's the only way we can do what you need. Something is very wrong with this picture.
For people, if you consider going to Aspen or any dental place, ASK for them to send the proposed work to your insurer first before having any work done, that is very important.
I absolutely do not recommend these crooks!

Unethical Behavior and Shoddy Work

Earlier this year I was pressured into expensive scaling because I was told I had periodontal disease. When the hygenist who took xrays asked me if I was pregnant I told her that no, I just had a miscarriage and I was trying again so I was hesitant about having xrays. She told me that the periodontal disease can be a contributing factor to miscarriage. Naturally I was concerned so they gave me a quote and I paid several hundred dollars out of pocket each visit (for each side) then a few months later I received a bill in the mail for over $500. I've called 5 times to inquire about the bill and I've always gotten the promise to talk to the manager and a call back. It never happens.

While I was having the scaling done my crown fell out of my mouth and the dentist said that I had the wrong size crown on my tooth. That procedure was also done by Aspen Dental about 2 years back (by a different and long gone dentist) and in the meantime the tooth was decaying under the crown because of the ill fit. I then had to go to a specialist for another root canal (had to pay out of pocket) and I went to a different dentist to ensure that the crown was done properly this time (also paid out of pocket). While I was at the dentist they told me that I had a severe cavity and they couldn't believe the Aspen hadn't mentioned it. I also had to pay out of pocket for this as Aspen had used all of my insurance towards the scaling.

I am out of thousands of dollars this year because of their negligence.

Unethical Behavior and Shoddy Work

Aspen Dental needs to rethink the way thy handle there corp. Stop with the numbers and start looking at the employees. The Wausau WI office Manager runs the place like it is hers and not Aspen. Does not follow Aspen procedures and does things her way. I understand her numbers are good but production is poor. She over books her Dr.s to were pt. are waiting hours for appointments. Schedules pt. when the cases from the lab are not even complete. Making the Pt. wait even more. How can you allow someone to continue working like this. You say you are a great company to work for but let people like this continue to work. You take a good Denture Tech. and let him go but keep one the doesn't even follow Aspen protocol.

Aspen dental practice!

Aspen dental told my wife she needed to have her roots cleaned and it would cost $1, 500 after what the insurance would cover. My wife said she was there to get her teeth cleaned, not her roots, her regular teeth cleaning is 100% covered and that is all she would have. The hygienist went on and on about how she needed her roots cleaned. My wife said "I care about feeding my kids more than I care about my roots, I don't care if all my teeth fall out I won't let my kids go hungry for a dental cleaning." The hygienist then said okay we can do the cleaning minus a special antibiotic we use and it will only cost you $166. My wife then said "that's more like it" and agreed to do the process. That is shady for sure.

It is also important to note the fluoride treatment they offer people at the end of a cleaning for $35 is 100% covered by 90% of the dental insurances out there so check with them because Aspen will charge you and charge your insurance both and it's really nothing more than Biotene than you can get a big bottle of from Wal-mart for $8 and do at home daily.
