After countless years of “fine” service at home (including – no joke – SIX YEARS of having no service during heavy rain – oh, those fun-filled days and nights and sometimes weeks), my excitement crested when I discovered that AT&T was (at the time) the only Internet provider in the area around our new business startup. Oh the joy - a dream come true!
The installation was ever so much fun. Luckily, no hardware was sacrificed in the process. The cable leading to our facility was smartly thrown around a pole, across our roof, and down the far side of the building, and is always there, lying atop our skylight, flapping a friendly “hello” in the breeze. The route to the inside that I had foolishly suggested (silly old microwave engineer that I used to be) would have been around 100 feet, but the route of 260 feet or so taken was much more scenic, especially for the exciting and wonderfully attenuated signal that it often brings us. Oh, and the “artwork” left on our freshly finished interior walls from the artist’s ladder will be treasured forever.
Alas, but several periods of strong winds have now taken their toll, and after having seen the top of a delivery truck rubbing up against our line most salaciously today, I waged a two hour battle to get through to AT&T “support” to have it given a look-see. Perhaps someday they’ll actually show up – reason to keep on going and hoping – yay! In the meantime, this being a federally bonded premises and all, and seein’s how this Internet line is the guardian of our crucial security system, looks like I’ll be living here for a while. Oh, goody – a campout!
Thanks again, AT&T. Attached are some priceless photos shared from my scrapbook – good job!
