Defective product - bad customer svc

I purchased a Groupon for a portion of a purchase from Balsam Hill - The purchase amount was approx. $650 and the Groupon face amount was $150.00. I ordered the item (a Christmas Tree) and put it together. The tree has 3 sections - each section had some type of defect. Upon discovering the first defect I called and they were going to send a replacement section - but would not arrive for almost 2 weeks (keep in mind this is a Christmas tree and it is December....) then today - the day after my initial phone call I discovered some lights on section 2 and section 3 were not working. I spent over an hour trouble shooting the problem before calling again and then spent another hour with customer service. I was told to take pictures and send in and someone would get back to me hopefully within 72 hours...tick, tick, tick. I called again this evening and requested that they replace the tree since all THREE sections were not working properly and was told that I needed to chose a different tree since they could not send the same tree because it was an exchange (excuse me???). And I would have to purchase the new tree and at some time in the future once they received the defective tree they would give me a refund for the defective tree....now I am livid. I told them since I ordered the tree that I wanted I did not want to order something different and furthermore I did not want to repurchase something that I had already purchased that was defective. I suggested that they could charge my credit card again if they did not receive the defective tree back - they did not want to do this. Now I am done with Balsam Hill and indicated that I would just return the defective tree period. Customer service (Michael) said that was okay and once they receive the defective tree I would receive a refund within 30 days - excuse me!!!! How can Groupon work with businesses like this - you know this reflects on you guys!! I want a Groupon refund for the junk that was sent to me - I am livid!

horrible customer service

I puchased a 9' tree......very expensive. The tree had some broken branches, it was wired in a sloppy manner and it leaned to one side. When I called customer service I was told to send pictures and an email to an address they gave me. I never got a response and had to keep calling back. They have ignored my requests for a new tree and they get you by not allowing returns after 30 days. Stay away from this company. No tree is worth dealing with these classless individuals. The tree was definetly not worth the price.....I should have gone to a local home center.

No complaints!

I was surprised to see all the complaints against Balsam Hill. People should know that there are good experiences too. I purchased a 9' multi light tree 2 years ago and it has been fantastic. My parents have purchased a total of 4 of them (home & business decorating) and haven't had any issues either. I recently moved and will need to get a shorter tree for the new house and I fully intend to purchase another Balsam Hill tree.
