I had BP organic shingles installed on my roof in 2002. They had a 30 year warranty. In 2014, the shingles were worn to the point where they needed replacement as confirmed by several independent contractors. The shingles had lost their granules and were starting to curl in many spots. One contractor described them as being dead and said they could leak or blow off at any time. He also stated that these particular shingles were a major problem for BP since they continually failed after 10 to 14 years and that BP had a class action suit against them. Furthermore, he said that most other companies selling organic shingles had similar issues. This was confirmed by my neighbor who owns a building supply company. I had my shingles replaced in the spring of 2015 with the top of the line BP of Canada shingles (lifetime warranty) and submitted my warranty claim regarding the early failure of my old shingles (12 years into a 30 year warranty) fully expecting that BP of Canada would honor the warranty. They sent me a claim form and asked me provide proof of purchase, proof of home ownership, date of purchase, pictures of damaged shingles, dimensions of the house, slope of the roof as well as other information. They told me to reference the class action suite which outlines the companies responsibility. After waiting 3 months to hear back from them, I received a letter stating that my claim was denied essentially because the shingles were not yet leaking. This felt like some sick joke so I contacted them and they said I could appeal the decision to a 3rd party which I have done. In the meantime, I could never recommend BP of Canada to anyone because of their business practices and unwillingness to live up to their warranty claims.
