I recently purchased a car here in NEVADA from what I thought was a private seller named Kato Jones. Once I test drove the car (a 1998 Kia Sportage) to make sure it ran decent and had air I set down with Mr Jones for the transaction. Once I placed the 2500 dollars in his hand, he handed me a sales contract listing CACHOS AUTO SALES as the seller. The dealership address was in Utah and the amount on the contract was 800 instead of 2500. Mr Kato Jones went on to explain that he had listed it as 800 to save me registration fees (in fact I believe the 800 was prefilled from the contract he had with Carmax, whom he bought the car from). He also asked that I tell the DMV I bought the car in UTAH should they ask. I brought to his attention that the engine light was on and he agreed to pay anything over 100 dollars that would repair the car 'for smog'.

The very FIRST time I drove the car after purchase, smoke and fumes poored inside and coolant literally flooded the carpet floor in the front seats. When I called him about the state of the car (undrivable) he suggested fixing a couple of sensors (working out of his own driveway) and 'bypassing' the heater core so the car would pass smog. He refused to pay to restore the vehicle to the shape it was in during my testdrive not even a week before. He was very nasty and when I asked him to take back the car and give me back my 2500 he said he no longer had my money. We finally agreed that he would buy the parts that needed to be replaced and I would find a way to pay for the labor. The labor ended up costing me another 400 dollars.

So on a vehicle that was bought WITH AIR AND HEAT for 800 dollars, I was stuck with the option of having a vehicle WITHOUT AIR OR HEAT (in the desert) for THREE times as much, or investing a total of nearly 3000 into a car that was 14 years old.

I am very suspect of the way the transaction was handled from the beginning. I advise anyone purchasing from CACHO AUTO SALES not to let ANY MONEY pass hands before having that vehicle thoroughly checked by a mechanic.
