Cameo Autioneers in Midgham

I, foolishly put an diamond ring in to the very last sale held at this fraudulent auction house and was totally unaware of any problems until I saw a report in our local paper, more fool me!! I contacted trading standards and the police after numerous emails and conversations with Mr King who was very evasive. The ring was supposedly "sold" although I never received any of the funds due. I was told by trading standards that a third party had been found to be storing some the items from the last sale, but of course, my ring was not amongst them. I read recently that Mr King has been sentenced to 5 years in jail, I am so cross that this auction house has was allowed to continue to trade when problems had been brought to the attention of trading standards and the police. I have lost faith in ever getting anything from any assets of Mr King or his family as compared to many my claim was small. In my opinion he should have been sentenced to longer as should the rest of his co-conspiritors!!

Cameo auctioneers
My parents have also been a victim of Mr Kings fraudulent intent.
My mother was in remission of having breast cancer and My father had a severe stroke, so My mother decided that it was best to move and go into a nursing home for the elderly.
They collected so much stuff over the years so we decided to put it up for auction about 7 display cabinets, 47 boxes plus teddy bears and many pictures. Some of the items went up for auction and then there was nothing, so I e-mailed to see when the rest was going in. They promised to put it in for the following auction-it never happened and then again. I e-mailed and left numerous of messages but with no answer. So I wrote a letter to return the rest of the goods which was not sold in auction and any money which was owed back to us within 7 days or face legal proceedings, before time was up the trading standards came in and ceased everything. So my guess is that probably nearly £3000 worth of my parents stuff gone with no trace.
I have kept all e-mails, photocopy of the letter I sent and also dates and lot numbers which was sold so far and how much the items went for.
I would just like to say that I hope people get most of the value back, hopefully by selling all their assets and leave the fraudsters with nothing, we will see.

Cameo auctions

In 2012 cameo took paintings, vases, crystal decanters, a gold ring and many other items from my home to sell at auction. We couldn't understand why each month these items were not put up - they kept saying they were on the list to be catalogued. Finally they went bust and we were left with nothing.
Can someone give me some advice please?

Stolen Watch

A few years ago, I consigned a gold watch (Audemars Piguet - value £2-3,000) for auction. I attended the auction and was surprised when the Lot was by-passed. Enquiring afterwards, I was told that the watch had been 'stolen' during the viewing of the auction a few days earlier. As it was supposedly insured while in Cameo's possession, I pressed for an insurance payout but received only a fraction of its value. I asked whether the police had been advised and was told they were investigation the theft but with difficulty as there was no CCTV in place to record what had happened. At the time, I had no choice but to accept Mr King's version of events but now in the light of subsequent events, I realise that I must have been another 'victim' of his unscrupulous activities.

Jon King Cameo Auctions

Hello, This complaint registration may be late in the game now that Mr. King has officially been charged with fraud and is expected to stand trial in 2014. Nevertheless I would like to register my complaint. I purchased a Beatles poster from Mr. King in November of 2011 (I think? ). U had contacted Mr. King and he assured me that poster was fully examined and it was 100% genuine. In fact Christies was selling a similar poster just after the Cameo sale. Based on the assurances I received from Mr. King I bid and won the poster and just over £2800 for the poster. Just after winning the bid I was contacted by fellow collectors informing me that the poster was a fake. In fact the similar poster at Christies was pulled from the auction as it was found to be a fake. Mr. King assured me my poster was genuine and I reluctantly proceeded with the sale. I was unaware of any problems at Cameo. Mr. King sent me the poster and it was evident as soon as I opened the package that the poster was a fake. I examined it with my printer's loupe and you could see the printing process and paper was wrong. I took the poster to two experts in Toronto and they examined the poster and both indicated it was their opinion that the poster was a fake. I contacted Mr. King and after I presented him with the facts he asked me to return the poster so he could have his expert look it over. I sent him the poster via UPS courier and it was received and signed for by Mr. King. Over the next several months Mr. King refused to answer my emails and he would not return my calls. I was pretty fed up with Mr. King and I therefore put a complete file together and sent it to the Police in the UK where Cameo was located. The Police contacted Mr. King and he assured them my refund was processed. I received several emails from the Police and they kept me up to date with Mr. King's activities as it pertained to my refund for the returned poster. I was able to talk to Mr. King shortly after the Police became involved and he told me my refund was issued by his bank HSBC. He told me he would contact them on Monday and get right back to me as it was Friday afternoon and the bank was closed. That was the last I heard from Mr. King. He lied about the refund being issues as I never received anything. To date no one has found the poster I returned and I am sure Mr. King knows where it is hidden or he destroyed it to get rid of the evidence. So that is essentially my story. The Police and Trading Standards should have the complete file with all the info including the correspondence from Mr. King. Any help recovering the returned poster or my £2800 refund would be greatly appreciated. My name is Len my email is [email protected]

Not paying consigners

I am also owed money, £311, by Cameo Auctioneers, Reading for an item sold in November 2011, when they sold a Jimmie Hendrix Album. I have phoned, written and e-mailed numerous times with only one reply saying that my account has been passed for payment or the cheque is in the post, yet I have received nothing. The last time I phoned they hung up as soon as I gave my name and would not answer the phone when I rang back several times.I have now issued a claim through the County Court. Reading the other comments on this site regarding this company I cannot believe that they are still allowed to trade and only wish I had researched them on line prior to sending my item for sale !

Not paying consigners

Cameo also owe us money. I have contacted the national fraud board, they take all details and pass these on to police. The more people that ring the board the more chance there is to stop these people. What they are doing amounts to theft. The phone number is 0300. 123 2040. If you have a complaint about cameo please ring and help to get these people stopped.

Not paying consigners

At last! This non payment to Vendors is nothing new! It has been going on over a long period of many years. The owner, Mr Jon King, works on the principle that after a while, those who are owed money will eventually give up and stop asking. An Auctioneer is obliged by the Legal Principle, 'Duty of Care', or the Law of Torte, to pay the Vendors and look after all goods and chattles on their behalf whilst in his care. He fails in both these requirements miserably. I urge you all to act as quickly as possible by any means, taking legal action, contacting Watchdog, local press, national press, the Antique and Trades Gazette...do anything to stop these appalling people carrying on their unsavory business. I am amazed that ITV and David Dickinson have any association with this Company. Well done to the BBC for highlighting this issue.

Not paying consigners

My husband is also owed money by cameo auctioneers. Every time we phone we. Are told the cheque is in the post. We have been to trading standards. These people have been on television on one of the auction programmed. They were also on television on march26th because one lady had been to this programme to get her money. These people need to be made to pay what they owe people.

Not paying consigners

I saw them on The Sherriffs are Coming on BBC the other day...again for not paying their consigners. One woman was owed over £4000 and they had kept hold of family heirlooms that they hadnt sold. This is tantamount to theft. I cannot see how they can get away with it.

Not paying consigners

We sold three lots with Cameo and were waiting for a valuation of my Husband's childhood stamp collection - foound out they sold the stamps and then other lots but are still waiting for our money. we contacted Trading Standards and are now going through the small claims process. The man who owns cameo is Mr King and he and his staff are a bunch of crooks - they have ignored the the small claims complaint and seem to think they are above the law. If anyone has any legal knowledge out there and has any ideas about what to do next then all suggestions will be gratefully received MJB
