My wife & I went to Gibraltar for a day as part of a tour that was otherwise covering Spain.

Since Gibraltar uses the pound currency & Spain is on the euro, we were told to be careful about eating or buying there to watch out for businesses that would accept euros but give bad exchange rates & therefore credit card (CC) use might be better.

Our first stop for lunch meal told us they didn't accept CC's so we moved on. 2nd place was called THE CORNER HOUSE CAFE - RESTAURANT.

We looked inside and the place had VISA signs on the door, so we decided to eat there. After we ate we asked for the check; when it came & we asked to pay by VISA, the waitress said that they didn't take VISA because their machine was broken ("for 2 days" she said) and gave us a bill with a 20% markup from the pound to the euro exchange rate (I checked online later that day on the exact exchange rate). The meal cost us about 5 Euros more than it should have.

This place should have their VISA contract revoked or whatever other sanctions are available.
