class action lawsuit against direct buy
My husband and I inherited my mother inlaws home. We were pulled between remodeling her home or buy a new home. I saw a commercial about direct buy, and got very excited thinking we could save alot of money remodeling my motherlaws home, so I talked my husband into going with me. We had a 3:00 appointment, there was 6 couple's with us, after walking us through, their beautiful remodeled kitchens and bath dispays they took us to a room were we all sat and us and gave us the beginning of his 45 min sales pitch, He started off by saying if we didnt join today, we would not be able to in the future and if we do join , we will be able to hand it down to our children. He also said, we will be able to buy anything at wholesale prices and that we don't even have to pay for shipping. This sounds to good to be true, I've seen direct buys commercial on and off for years now and there still a company, so everything he's saying has to be true, right, Wrong!!! He took us aside if we would join now , we would already make our money back of the 5,400.00 to join, if were were to remodel our kitchen and after seeing the high class kitchen displays we would be crazy if we didn't join. We were shocked at the high price to join.We were never told at the end of your 2year payment plan of 178.00 a month, we would have to pay 300.00 to stay a member. During the presentation we were told once we paid the 5,400.00, we were in the membership for life. He rushed us through the contract and told us were to sign, he said he was in a hurry and gave us no
time to read the small print,
As soon as I got home I read the small print, at that time I began to question this company, the more I read the more doutfull, I became. The next day we decided to buy a home. The only reason for going to DB, is the remodeling and my mother inlaws home, since we decided tobuy a home we wouldn't need to stay with DB. I new with any contract you have to cancell by the 3rd day. We saw them on a Saturday and I cancell on the phone on a monday ,That week end was aholiday weekend and they were closed on Monday, but I still called and left 2 messages, saying I want to cancell my membershipI called again on tuesday and again left amessage to cancel. Then I called again on wednesday and someone answered, I told him I called 3 times, once on the 2nd day and 3rd day of the contract, he said they never got the messages and it was past the 3rd day, so were cant get out of the contract, I began to freak out I new if I didnt pay the monthly payments it could ruin my credit to buy a home we already picked out. I tried everything, I told him I have proof I called, by my phone bill. That didn't do any thing, he told me we signed a contract we only had 3 days to cancell. I told him I need to speak to his manager, he said he was the manager. After speaking to him I read the small print., it dosen't say anything about 3 days to cancel. I kept calling them, leaving messages, The credit card company they us is also connected to them, They are scams!!! I don't no how their still in business, after all these years.I continued to call them and now there telling me I have to cancel in writing on or before the 3rd day, it doesn't say that in the contract either. And was I suppose to do that on a holiday weekend. Please help, can't affored this after buying a home .

CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT INFO
DO NOT waste your time and especially your money on DirectBuy. It is definitely a BIG SCAM. The membership fees in Albuquerque were $5874.30 for three years plus $200 more for another year renewal. I have found items much cheaper online including delivery to my home. With DirectBuy you pay shipping and handling and delivery to the home is extra. If you live outside the Albuquerque area, figure in the travel costs to pick up your orders if you choose to sign up. Unless you have a huge home and plan to spend thousands to totally gut and completely refurnish it, you will never save what they tell you during the presentation. Contractors and fabricators charge extra for mileage to travel outside the area. DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY AWAY TO DIRECTBUY.
