We have had a store, Bartley road, closed by the fire marshal because the aisle and emergency exit was blocked with roll containers. This store had also been closed by management a couple times before to try to get stock on the shelves but there was still trucks delivering and no room to put it. The old store manager was not any help of stocking. I was in the store one day and the SM and two other employees were watching another employee bang on a cart tire with a hammer. Two other employees were stocking. Once the SM was let go several of the employees also left. Racial remarks have also been made from employee to another employee. The SM now is usually on the store phone talking loudly to another SM.
There has also been certain stores in this district where SM's go to other stores to work. There is at least one store that has maybe one/two other SM's come to work, but that SM has to go to the other stores. The Pyne road store passed its inventory and it was rumored that the DM thought it would not. There were two SM that came the day of and were surprised that it looked good. The DM would not give the score for a while. This store has been in the top range for a while. There was an incident with fraud that occurred in the store and the key holder contacted the SM who came in. She tried to contact the DM by calling and texting but was unable. The theft was by pushing the F1 key on registers to put money on a cash it actually is taking money from the store and the store being unable to get it back. This has been a scam that has been going through out the district/country. The SM did get most of the money back on her own. The employees that were there did write statements about the incident. The key did not put in her statement that the F1 key was pushed. The DM asked th SM to get her to change her statement. The SM didn't feel right about it but did as she was asked. The DM also wanted her to find someone to cover the next shift the key was supposed to work, which was opening up on a Sunday. The DM also told the SM to be there so he could fire the key. This is the only day the SM takes off. The SM and ASM did come in and waited with the employees for the DM. After several hours they went home. In the afternoon the SM was contacted by the DM to go back to the store and fire the employee. He did not make it. The employee was a great worker and enjoyed her job and was part of the Pyne road dollar general family. It was hard on the family. This has been going on and never passed on to the stores to be on the watch. It seems to be the norm wait until it happens before its put out.
Another store has several employees come down with the covid and he wanted other employees to go work that store while those were out. Putting them at risk and their families.
Another store in one of the small towns was told by the mayor that he would shut the store down because of being an eye sore.
Another store can place unopened boxes of products on sky shelves but other stores are told to open all boxes and place as many of the product on the shelves and taking what is left and sky shelving them or put it in over stock.
Many of the stores have produce and products that become out of date and aren't pulled when needed. Alot of time its because there is not enough hours for the employees to work them. There is a very big difference in which store gets the hours. There is also stores that are in certain parts of the county that during certain times of the year it could have products that would sell but doesn't get looked into. But the store can get 40 plungers with a shelf that has 4 placements, diapers that usually are over stock, shoes and toilet paper.
The round up of roll containers has become an issue. Trucks that are delivering are not picking up any. They are several layers deep and take up alot of parking lots. Trucks that are delivering move them out of the way to back up their trucks. This then places carts in parking places as well if they are not properly set roll through the parking lot. Its hard to get boxes broke down to be placed in the roll containers. Dollar General has invested in some strong glue securing the boxes. Everyone tries but sometimes it isn't possible with display peices.
Security is not a priority at some stores. There are stores that have a SM or ASM working several hours because of hrs.. The SM's hours don't count but they cover it because they have to keep the store open. In the area of certain stores its easy for someone to rob it and get away, because of the time that law enforcement can get to it. There are no cameras that are placed where they can see the outside so that it can assist in possibly getting information to help. There are only cameras within the store, but if you don't have anything to go on then is it worth the possible life of employees or customers. Thus is a cost but should be worth it. Also the phone reception in many of the stores don't work, not even prepaid phones. You have to get close to the doors to get any reception. Many of people have posted this on Facebook and other sites and make comments.
There is also the penny items that are lut on Facebook and they are even giving classes on how to find and get them. Certain stores have not been aware of these items until the day someone comes in and cleans out the items. Each store tries to let other stores know what have been looked at their stores.
As most people know stores come out with Christmas before Halloween, but when you get Easter items around the last part of the year when you are putting out valentine's items becomes hard to find shelves to place it on. Then throw in the back to school items.
There seems to be some favorite stores in this district it shows.

We do have SM 's that are top of the line along with other employees. Several are dedicated and work because they enjoy the job but leave because of hours or request to get more hours at other stores.
We know that not everyone is liked especially management but the DM, Marcus seems to have changed after a recent surgery. He seemed to be reasonably well liked before. Now everyone contacts the other stores to get them aware that he's out. When we should be okay with him coming to our stores, because we know that they are up to our best. I have seen recent visits (very few lately) where when he comes in its to basically down grade the store. He walks and talks about the store with the SM, ASM, or keys and discusses issues within the ear shot of customers. He could make notes and take them into the office or outside to discuss it.
The RM has not been seen at many of the stores. We don't even know who he is if hedid come to the stores. Which might be a chance for him to come check out stores in the district.

This is one employee that enjoys the time they work at the store and proud to say I'm an employee. Can someone help us.
