Have a really nice pair of Ecco Oxfords. I put them on after I bought them, they were stored in a shoe box. The soles were "gummy". I walked on my hardwood floors and they left a black sticky print, like tar or like I had walked in something that was disintegrating the sole of the sole. Acid? I then realized the sole was "melting". I then read on line and found that many purchases of Ecco shoes were having similar products. This is unacceptable.

Thinking that the soles just needed some cleaning, I washed them with warm soapy water and let them dry for several days. I discovered that it is actually the rubbery material that had softened and was disintegrating.
