Payment Overcharges

I belonged to Nubobys and was paying $125 bi-weekly for gym membership and for a personal training package. Goodlife bought out Nubodys. Toward the end of my training package I asked for confirmation of the final payment date. After asking for a month I was told that theye was an error in the payment system when Godlife took over Nubody and I still owed Goodlife 7 bi-weekly payments of $125 that they didn't recieve (for months of April, May and June). I have been going back and forth with them as they want the payments eiother in one lump sum or for 7 more bi-weekly payments.

I am still trying to get this corrected even thou I have the bank statements that show the payments were taken from my account.

Sad thing is when I went to the bank to get copies of my statements, the bank rep shared his story of how it took him 6 months to get his account straightened out when Goodlife took over his gym a few yrs back in another city.

Further, since Goodlife took over Nubodys the quality of the gym service has dropped so much that I rarely even go there any more and ny trainer left because he didn't like working for them.

Payment Overcharges

Caveat emptor -- buyer beware -- is the first rule in business. Don't let businesses -- GoodLife or anyone else -- get access to your bank accounts, period. Pay them by cheque, wait until the cheque clears the bank (in Canada the cheque clearing system is so good that 95% to 98% of the cheques are cleared overnight) and show the vendor confirmation from your bank. If they won't accept cheques, pay by cash and get a receipt with the name of the person issuing the receipt written in BLOCK LETTERS on the receipt itself.

High pressure sales tactics are not limited to GoodLife. Lots of business try it. It's up to you to walk away from it. I have a "key account membership" at GoodLife. I used the services of a consultant by paying and additional $149.00. CERTAINLY DID NOT GET MY MONEY'S WORTH FOR THAT. The fitness consultant in question tried to sell me -- on my nickel -- a one year personal training program for more than $6, 500! I just laughed and walked away.

After that, I have received a couple of superb orientation sessions -- free of charge -- on stretching exercises and Fit-Fix from another consultant at the same club.

Remember, you are responsible for your own physical fitness and more than that, the fitness of your wallet. Caveat emptor.

I work out pretty regularly at one of the downtown Toronto clubs.
