Defective Parts/Equipment
Purchased a Residential AC unit from Goodman (model# ARUF42C14AD-) on 09/10/2014 and on 01/02/2017 our unit stopped cooling and our power bill increased over $100.l called our installer out and he discovered we had a hole in the coil. We lost all of our Freon and had to pay $200 for 10lbs of Freon and an hour of labor $70 =$270.00 to get us through until the new coil came in; (we live in Florida with temps in the 80s/90s). He then replaced the coil at $280 for 4 hours of labor and another 5lbs of Freon that had leaked out until the new coil came in for a total of $380 at that visit and an overall total of $650 in repairs on a unit that is 2 years old. I called Consumer Affairs Department at Goodman and got absolutely NO WHERE with the inept representative who kept telling me 'it is a matter of my opinion as to why there was a hole in the coil." My opinion is that there is a hole in a coil that is a little over 2 years old; which is due to a defective part or shoddy manufacturing. There is no way I put the hole in the coil as it was completely inaccessible without taking the entire piece out. My warranty covered the coil itself however, the cost of the Freon and labor should not be MINE. Had the part been made properly or was of quality craftsmanship, I would NOT HAVE HAD THE HOLE and then would NOT HAVE HAD TO PAY $650.00. Take responsibility for your product and stand behind it. A defect in a little over TWO YEARS after install is ridiculous and clearly an issue with the product.
