REFUND OF TAX PREP FEES DUE TO PREPARER'S ERRORS!
I went to the H & R Block office in Marysville, Washington on July 15, 2015 to have my taxes prepared and electronically filed. Anne Waite was the tax preparer who assisted my daughter and I, and I must say, she has no business calling herself a tax professional! I have always prepared my own taxes in the past, however I always would use H & R Block for the electronic filing portion. I was always pleased with their service, and I would always receive my refund within 24 to 72 hours after filing, utilizing the Rapid Refund Anticipation Loan service that H & R Block offered. This year there were mitigating circumstances however, due to the fact that my daughter and I were both full-time college students, and I found it necessary to utilize the tax preparation service of H & R Block. I soon found that I had made a horrible mistake! I should have listened to my own intuition and ran from this "professional" when it became necessary for me to tell her which lines to use on the 1040A tax form to include our scholarship and loan information. Anne Waite, the tax preparer, kept insisting that she should list these monies as wages, tips, and salaries. I explained to her that scholarship and loan monies is not considered wages. She disagreed, and filed the taxes her way. 5 months later I still had not received my tax refund from the IRS. I had the responsibility of calling the IRS myself, to inquire as to what the hold up may be, even though this should have been up to my tax preparer to do, and would have constituted good customer service, however after speaking with the IRS representative, I was told that Anne Waite had filed the taxes incorrectly, and that an amendment would need to be filed before I would receive a refund!! I called and explained this to Anne, and she still insisted that she had done it correctly, but stated that she would file an amendment to please me. She even wrote a statement to me saying that if an amendment had to be filed that she would not charge me the $163.00 for the tax preparation. Almost immediately after the amendment was filed, I received my refund, indicating to me that the taxes were prepared incorrectly and once they were amended, 5 months later, I received my monies, minus all of the fees from H& R Block! I was livid that they would still take out their fees, when they clearly filed them incorrectly, and I had a statement from Anne Waite saying she would not charge me the monies. I went to the office in Marysville on Thursday, December 11th, 2016 to ask for my money back, and to show the statement that verified that I was promised and entitled to this refund. They told me that Anne Waite was not in the office, and I was told that she was the only one in the office who could authorize the refund. I was told that she would be available today, Monday, December 14th, after 10:00 AM. I called the office and spoke with Anne and she was very rude, and she told me that she had given my file to the district manager, Chris Logans?, and he was the only one who could make a decision as to the refund. I asked her, "What do you mean, make a decision as to a refund? I have a statement from you with a promise to not charge me if an amendment needed to be filed!" She very rudely said, "I am not discussing this with you and he will make a decision". I said, "Can I please have the spelling of his name, and his contact information?" She says, "I don't know his contact information. and he works out to the Evergreen office". I asked her for the telephone number of the Evergreen office and she said that I would have to look it up!! I looked up the number to the Evergreen office, and I called and spoke with the representative who answered, and asked to speak to the district manager and she said I can take your information and give it to him. I asked if I could have his contact information and she said, "We contact him through email, and I will give him your information". I am livid!! They will not give me the necessary information, and they have yet to contact me and offer me so much as an apology, let alone the monies that they charged me for their tax preparer's errors! I had to wait 5 months to receive money that I desperately needed, due to their employee's pride and stubbornness and her failure to admit her mistake! I WANT MY REFUND THAT I WAS PROMISED!! I was charged for services that were not rendered! I will NEVER use H&R Block again and I will tell everyone I know about my experience here. This is so unfortunate, considering I was a good customer for many years prior to this. I also need the information to contact the Corporate office so that I may file a formal complaint against this employee. She is rude, and doesn't know the first thing about good customer service. She should not be allowed to do this to someone else! She is not a professional tax preparer and if she is allowed to continue in this position, I have no doubt that H& R Block will be paying out a lot more than the $197.00 that is owed to me. $163.00 in tax preparation fees and RAC fees in the amount of $34 and some change. They cannot possibly charge me for a Refund Anticipation Check that took 5 months, based on errors made by their employee, can they? Or can they? Please help me to resolve this!! Please! I deserve to be contacted, or given the information necessary to contact the person responsible for my refund of fees, and I shouldn't have to write letters such as these to get it!!!
