HireRight is a third party verification system hired by Employers to conduct background checks. The company is supposed to contact previous employers to verify employment dates, however this is not taking place. The company contacts the employee and states the potential employee has not given them permission to contact previous employers when in fact the employee has done so when the documents provided by HireRight are signed and dated. HireRight in turn claims to be unable to verify start and end dates of past employment and claim to require tax information. Tax transcripts do not provide complete start and end dates for previous employers, instead provides salary information. I have contacted two previous employers who have stated they were never contacted by HireRight. While it is not a federal law violation to request W2's of previous employers it is prohibited on a state level. In addition such information is an intrusive invasion of privacy. HireRight is mishandling the dates of employment provided by the potential employee which causes a discrepancy in the information provided by the potential employee to appear to look inaccurate. Conduct of this nature has an effect on the lives of people. The employer's trust this company to provide a truthful and honest background check on potential employee's, however no one has thought to investigate the ethical background of this company.
