We experienced a serious scam attempt by the Hitman Pro support center--which appears to be in India. Since Hitman offers no way to contact them, it's unclear whether their support center is outsourced or is part of their organization.
My wife unknowingly gave access to their version of the Rescue App, and they logged into our system – and began running system commands that spoofed our C: drive and IP address, followed by lengthy references to “child porn,” “bank hacks,” and other alarming text. The agent, apparently an Indian woman, drew images of computers on the screen using a kind of whiteboard app, and told us our array of devices needed a protective wrapper. The cost would be $299 for one year, $399 for two years, etc. We spotted this as an obvious scam.
When I asked for her return phone number, she terminated the call. When I called back and asked for a manager, I was again hung up on. Unable to find a phone number for Hitman, I called Cleverbridge and they gave me the email address
[email protected]. I then relayed this information to that address but received no reply. This is a serious scam. Since Hitman offers no contact information, it's unclear whether it's the Hitman developers or their call center who are directing the scam. We've had no complaint about the product itself, but users should NOT call their support number.
