I need to get this off my chest. I worked at Store # 6501 in Houston Texas for almost 4 years in the Lumber Dept. I am retired, had too, had a stroke in 2014, year and a half couldn't work didn't have the strength. Doc said to exercise, eat healthy food. My strength has improved over the years. On the rainy day of 11/19/2018, I had to unload a delivery truck of cement pallets off of the truck.It was raining. My helper young kid, short guy and I threw a 3x5 Hardie board panel on the roof of the forklift, to keep some of the rain off of you. We have been doing that for years. It has a sunscreen to protect from the Sun, but not rain. As I was stepping down from forklift I fell on my butt, I think I put my arm out to break the fall. I felt good, so unloaded the truck. A few hours later my arm starts to swell up, and hurt like hell. Pablo took the report, I started to get light headed, dizzy. They called 911, my blood pressure was at 180. Ended up with a broken arm and ligament hurt.on elbow. The arm is getting better, on light duty as a greeter. On 12/03/2018 Mike the store manager and Pablo called me into office, Said I was fired for safety violation of Home Depot Safety rules It was my final warning. Pablo wrote me up a few months back, for safety violation and my spotter David. Said did not have proper gates out, putting 4x4 lumber in the hole on the rack on the floor. My first 2 DH's said if it is on the floor, not lifting more than 4 ft, no gates just a spotter. Like putting a pallet of cement in the hole on the floor. We have been doing that for years also. David got pissed and went to work for Lowe's, closer to his house, Back to present. How can 3x5 sheet of Hardie be a safety violation? I told Mike we have been doing that for years, He said he did not know that. I asked why did you not provide a plastic cover for the forklift for the rain. He said it does not come with that. Guess that is an excuse. They said Home Depot safety rules are in black and white.will do to Manager incompetence, or too cheap to buy the right equipment. Sometimes you have to go into the gray area, so you can get the job done. But have common sense about it, if it looks good, feels good,, then it is safe. Understand Mike has his plate full, so not the type of person to judge him, not knowing what is going on in the store all the time, Believe Pablo was told to write everybody up for anything. Now TEAP is going to deny payment for hours, and doctor. Because I was fired. Contacted a lawyer for worker comp, not sure if I am going to go that route.
