Was fired for doing something we always have done in the Lumber Dept. It was raining, My spotter and I put a 3x5 haridie board on the roof of the forklift to keep the rain off your face and getting in your eyes, if you wear glasses it is worse. You need to see where your going and what you are doing. That is unsafe. We needed to unload a truck that has been waiting an hour to get unloaded. I fell on my butt and broke my arm stepping down off the forklift. I am 66 years old, retired, work part-time at that store, for the past 3 almost 4 years. They said I violated their safety rules by putting a 3x5 haridie board on roof of forklift to keep rain off of you so you can do your job unloading the truck.I told Mike the store Mang. we have always done that when it is raining outside. He said he did not know that. I asked why the store did not provide a plastic cover for the forklift then???? He said it did not come that way. Guess that is an excuse. Pablo the new ASM had written me and another guy David, for something else that was always done. 2 DH's have said that no gates are needed just a spotter when you are putting product in the hole when it is on the ground and do not have to lift the product up off the ground. This new ASM likes to write you up, without talking to you first, verbal warning type thing. That is like walking up to a stranger and kicking him in the nuts. Not a good thing.The Insurance company now says they are not going to pay for medical bills, or time off of work because they fired me. I can not work until arm is healed.
