MEDICAL COVERAGE DENIED

My husband had a total hip revision this year, the operation took approx. 6 hours and cost 137k. After 4 days he was moved to a skilled nursing facility as he was totally non weight bearing on that hip and needed assistance and PT. After 10 days he developed cellulitis and was admitted into hospital for intravenous antibiotics. while in the hospital we asked Humana to allow him to go into a either a rehabilitation facility/skilled nursing at the hospital where the operation had been done as it was apparent that the facility he had been in plus the hospital he was being treated in for his cellulitis had no idea how to handle his situation or the PT when it came to his hip condition, one nurse said she'd never seen the equipment my husband was supposed to wear 24 hours a day before, Humana denied the request saying we could file a grievance/appeal. The hospital my husband was in discharged him (7/1/15), Humana would not pay for the ambulance that would be needed to get him home and into the house, (we have 5 steps up to the front porch), they said they pay for emergency only. So we loaded him up into the car and went home where he had to sit outside in 98 degree heat for 4 & 1/2 hours until my son and his wife got home and drove up to our home where it took the 3 of us to lift him up the steps and into the house. Humana also said they would not pay for the hospital bed that would be needed at home, or the reclining chair needed to keep his legs elevated above his heart. He wasn't able to get into the bathrooms as the wheel chair (I think they may pay for that!!) could not get into position to transfer him either onto the toilet or onto a shower chair as the bathrooms are not big enough, so bathing unless bed bath and you can't roll him over is out of the question. On 7/10/15 his feet and legs started to swell again and after a CED Rate & CRP was done by the Home Health nurse was taken we were called by the Dr's office and told to take him to the ER. He had been out of hospital 8 days from the cellulitis. The ER admitted him and now he's back in the hospital once again on intravenous antibiotics. Humana has just sold to Aetna and from what I'm hearing it seems that looking profitable (although it makes no sense to not follow through after such an expensive operation) is more important that patients health. My husband has a Medicare Advantage Gold plan, if you're mobile & healthy it's great, but, if you start to need real care that may have any complications don't make the mistake we made, stick with your Medicare and get a part D. After what happened to us I would warn anyone off signing up with their Medicare Advantage plans and from what I've seen regarding complaints about Humana, any of their plans period.
