Please can you assist urgently with my complaint against LegalWise.



I contacted LegalWise on the 10th February this year regarding my ex boyfriend/caregiver (Rune Holmeide) who owes me an amount of R900 000 (Nine Hundred Thousand Rand).




I explained to the LegalWise councillor (Sholishini Govender), that I needed a court order issued against the person who owes me the money, because he had been making plans to leave the country without paying me.




The LegalWise consultant informed me that a file would be opened.



In the weeks following my first consultation, I received two emails from the LegalWise councillor:

1. Asking me for my home address and

2. Asking me to sign a form stating that it was not a business related matter.



I responded to both emails, signed and returned any forms that LegalWise had requested from me.



According to my knowledge, I was not contacted again by anyone at LegalWise and if they had called I would not have recognised the number as no voice message was left for me to call LegalWise back.



LegalWise also has my email address and could easily have sent me an email, if it was necessary, stating that they could not continue with my case for whatever reason.



I naturally assumed that LegalWise was working on the matter as I was not informed otherwise.



On the 20th April 2021, I received news that the person owing me money was on his way to the Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria. I immediately contacted the LegalWise consultant and informed her.



I received no immediate response and was called much later that day (20th April 2021) by the consultant (Sholishini Govender) who then informed me that they would not be taking on my case.



I was under the impression that Legal Wise was handling the matter and their lack of action has now robbed me of two months wherein I could have taken alternate action to ensure that a court order was taken out against Rune Holmeide.



Please can you assist because LegalWise is not willing to be held accountable for neligence on their part. Rune Holmeide has now left the country and is back in Norway.

5/2/21 - You only consulted telephonically with our Legal Counsellor on a matter relating to monies advanced to a 3rd party. You advised that your ex-boyfriend/partner owes you R900 000.00 for which you had got him to sign an acknowledgement of Debt in February 2021. You further advised that he recently informed you that he will be leaving the country. You wanted us to assist you with instituting a claim against the former boyfriend as you are of the opinion that once he leaves the country, it will be hard to retrieve the money. The money was borrowed from 2018. You were advised that we will assist with perusing the agreement signed with the former partner to see if a claim can be instituted despite then agreeing to settle out of court. The file notes indicated that you were advised that the matter will not enjoy cover in the event of a referral to be considered.

5/2/21 The file was transferred to our offices on the same day and allocated to Saloshini Govender.

10/2/21 Saloshini called and emailed you to send a copy of the AOD

11/2/21 When Saloshini received the contract she was concerned about the time frame involved in that she queried from our Senior Legal Counsellor (SLC) if we could refer the matter. According to the AOD first payment is due on the 20/02/2021 and that the ex-boyfriend was leaving the country. SLC looked specifically at the contract and raised further queries in that we needed to know whether the amounts loaned related to business or not and the fact that if the debtor leaves the country then it will be done by way of edictal citation which our policy does not cover.

29/3/21 and on the 31/3/21 Saloshini tried to call you but to no avail.

29/3/21 Saloshini emailed you regarding feedback on the affidavit.

31/3/21 Saloshini having received your response wanted recanvassed the issue of referral with SLC.

6/4/21 Saloshini discussed her query noting that the matter could not be referred as you confirmed that our policy does not cover matters where monies were advanced during the subsistence of a relationship.

6/4/21 Saloshini tried to call you but to no avail. She sent an sms to you as well to contact us to discuss the matter further.

20/4/21 You sent an email to Saloshini (sending her your trailing email sent to the embassy for Norway on the 20/4/21). You further advised her that your ex-boyfriend was leaving the country as of the 21/4/21.

In concluding, we reiterate our initial and subsequent advices to you and that although you have merits to your matter, you may instruct an attorney on private instruction as our policy does not cover matters outside of South Africa, case in point. Reference is made to Section 3 (a) of our Membership Agreement. Further to this, you would have read and understood that Section 6 (2) of our Agreement on matters arising from persons living together as husband and wife or as life partners do not qualify for insurance benefits. Of note please bear in mind that even if summons were served in SA, this did not end the matter and that any further action to be considered thereafter would have resulted in the matter not being covered (outside of SA) as well due to Section 3 (a) of the policy, hence you would have still proceeded privately with the attorney.

From the comments posted on this site it is shocking indeed. Maybe i should first remind Legal Wise of your obligation arising from the contract signed, you are a legal institution you are very much aware of the "Law of contract"

Anyway, case number:CVL00071252 assigned to Randburg office under Danny Paulsen. regarding a repayment of a loan agreed upon.

It only went as far as sending a demand letter to my debtors, this of course after numerous attempts contacting this Mr Paulsen reminding him about the case. I should have seen the poor service coming from the onset. Emails i have sent requesting feedback but to no avail from this two emails: [email protected] and [email protected] and recently they start bouncing back as mail undelivered. which means they have blocked my mails.

Can i kindly have the proper procedure for escalations and to whom must we escalate matters regarding the poor service from Legalwise.

Instead of people cancelling your policies and loosing all the money you paid, the policy you took is a legal document/contract between you and Legalwise. If you have performed fully with regards to your payments, LegalWise has an obligation to perform aswell.

The officials at Legalwise, instead of sending my matter to court for finalisation, they kept making false statements that the are unable to get hold of me thus they are clising the mattet.

The strangest thing is that they are able to reach me when they notify me of closing the matter but they have been unable all along.

I was always waiting for documents from the officials so i could sign and return them so they are submitted to court for a coury date. No documents were received from them despite my numeroud emails following up on the matter.

Their service is pathetic. Unacceptable.

I have been a loyal member of Legalwise for years now, to my disappointment, I contacted Legalwise seeking advise on a pressing legal matter. I spoke to Desree who lodged a file for me with the Soweto branch and to date no assistance. I have sent emails requesting a contact person who can assist with this matter as I am in the dark currently.

It is with great disappointment. I have been a loyal client of Legalwise for years now, I have never lodged a claim or had to seek their services until now. I have a very pressing legal matter.

I called the call centre spoke to Desree, she logged my file and referred my case to the Soweto branch. Nothing done!
I called the Soweto branch this morning and they indicated that their supervisor would be calling me today to assist with my case.. Still waiting for the call.

It seems there is no sense of urgency with any legal matter that one comes forward to Legalwise with. Judging from all the complaints, I have no desire to carry on with their services as there are non.

im really disappointing with Legal wise service i have been paying the policy for over 2 years and last year July i lodged a complain to date no assistance,i have send numerous emails to the guy handling my case in Pretoria he doesn't even respond escalated the matter to his supervisor still no response, when you call the office you will be told that they are on lunch they will take your details but you will not receive a call from them, why are we still paying for such bad service.

My name is Paledi MS. Last year (2018 from July to September) I wrote a letter of refund with my banking details attached as advised by Thuli to legalwise but I have not got any response from them ever since. Not sure what to do next.

I phoned and logged my query - emailed all info that was needed from us, got no response. We had to follow up ourselves and received pathetic, slow and unprofessional service. We are currently busy resolving our own issue, driving up and down as we received no joy from the "attorney" appointed to assist us. We have been paying for 4 years and this is our first attempt as requesting assistance from legal wise for a petty traffic fine, if Legal wise cannot assist with a petty issue i have absolutely no faith in them for anything that really matters. We wasted money paying them for 4 years, we could've been paying a real professional agency who is willing to assist and not just in it for the money.

i am disappointed in the manner which Legalwise has handled my urgent matter. i was booked an appointment for 13h00 today at the Joburg office and was meant to meet with Lungile Ndlovu on arrival i was informed by the receptionist there was no appointment made and Lungile was gone for lunch.

certain matters require urgent attention and felt there was no customer service at Legalwise. am considering moving to a company that prioritises customer service.


have given the company numerous chances to make up for the blunder but i guess my membership does not take priority, there are better clients to serve.

Am still awaiting a call from the complaints department which is currently having lunch.

I have been paying legalwise for approximately 15 years and when I submitted my case last year ,the attorney allocated was no longer dealing with my case ,the attorneys allocated send me letter instead of the person who owes me the money and after that they could no longer help,I then called and complianed and I asked that my membership be cancelled,then immediately they cancelled it with no hesitation,the attorneys are not infomred that I am cancelled as a member and is asking me to complete documentation and now i need to start all over again.I must say this is the worse service I have ever received from a compnay that you invest your trust and money in.

Having being a member for over 20yrs, I thought I was legally covered by Legal Wise, until the day I lodge a claim, then I discovered that this was a LegalScam. These are bunch of people we are out there to rob people of their money.
Having to read other people complains from this Company, i was shocked that they are almost similar.
They don't do follow ups, stuff is incompetent, even their Customer Care just don't care.
I had to go to another Branch for better service thinking maybe I might get the help I need, it was worse.
Please don't join this LegalScam, there are other better options out there.
I have since cancelled my membership, just sad I can't claim my subscriptions back.

We went to see a Legalwise consultant at the Pretoria office in March 2015 to open a case against our previous landlords that deducted money from our deposit unlawfully and refuse to pay interest on the deposit.

The consultant appointed to my matter was Mr Phathutshedzo Rapea ([email protected]). At first we thought that he will really be able to assist us in this matter but after several emails requesting on progress without any success, we realised that paying Legalwise for possible future service has been a complete waste of money. Today is the 13 May 2015 and to date have not received any positive feedback on what has happened with my case. I had to approach now a private laywer to assist me and to provide me with real service. I will never in my life trust them again and will tell everyone as far as I go not to even consider joining them.
