Do NOT give Liberty Power your Power Bill Account Number
A representative claiming to be from Liberty Power came to our home today. He told us that Liberty Power was better than our current electricity provider because it could protect us from pricing fluctuations in the energy market by providing a flat rate over a period of two years. The representative asked to see our power bill so he could check our account number via his iPad app and determine what savings we could have. Unfortunately, I showed him our bill. He proceeded to note our AMEREN account number and enter it into an application form he had on his iPad. He then asked me to initial and sign the application. I explained that I was not interested in switching providers and only wanted to learn more about the rates offered. He explained that if I signed I would NOT be switching to Liberty Power. However, from what I could read on the iPad application form, my initialing and signing was giving consent to change my electricity provider. I told him I would not sign. He then told me he needed me to sign a questionnaire as it would be helpful to him. He activated a function on the app which made it appear that I was initialing and signing some type of survey, but after I signed it, the form showed that I had indeed just signed the consent form I told him I did NOT want to sign. Very sneaky.
After he left, I immediately called our utility provider AMEREN and explained what happened. The AMEREN representative explained that my showing the representative of Liberty Power our AMEREN bill with our account number was enough information for them to have the authorized consent necessary that our electricity supplier be switched over to Liberty Power. The AMEREN representative was very polite and explained that I would simply need to call Liberty Power and ask the to cancel our sign up. She also told me to call AMEREN back on the following Tuesday (this happened on a Wednesday) to check if a change request had been submitted to their system. If the request is in the system, the AMEREN represent said they have a 7 to 10 day window to cancel it.
I then called Liberty Power and waited on hold for around 10 minutes before being able to speak to someone. I explained the situation and asked that any sign up for Liberty Power services on our address and AMEREN account be cancelled. The representative was polite and he took down our AMEREN account details and gave me a reference number. I asked if there would be any cancellation or termination fee and the rep said that if service is cancelled within 7 to 10 days, no fee could be charged.
PluginIllinois dot org shows a ranking of the states electricity suppliers based on complaints received. Liberty Power was one of the worst electicity suppliers at the bottom of the list with a one star rating. Our current supplier, Homefield Energy, was one of the top ranked providers with a five star rating.
My feeling is that the individual who came to our home today was not from Liberty Power, but some kind of third party marketing agency who receives commissions for getting customers to sign up.
If you get a call or visit from anyone claiming to be from Liberty Power, do NOT give them your utility provider's account number.

Cancellation scam
The initial recruiter swore up and down I wouldn't have a cancellation fee. I wound up canceling two weeks later. Then I get a call a week after that Confirming my cancelation. I didn't pick up because it was an unknown number. I listened to the voicemail and called the woman back 10 minutes later to confirm my cancellation without a fee. It's now 2 weeks after that that I get a letter in the mail that I have a cancellation fee of $230. They claim they have made several attempts to contact me. GTFO! Scam artists. I cancelled it because they claim to be cheaper than Peco but are not! Now I'm going on 15 minutes on hold with these scumbags. Can't even get in contact with anyone. Great. They just hung up on me.

Respect
Before you have respect, you need to establish trust.
There is no trust in the business or the leadership team. Sure, there is still ‘some’ talent within that group, however progress and improvements to the business are stymied by current ownership. There is zero accountability in the organization.
Industry has changed, no doubt. There is heavy downside volatility in price, however if you have a fixed price book and manage that book effectively, there should be upside to margins as has been seen by other industry players. However, current sleeve provider does not allow us to take any length, meaning the book is tighter than.. well let’s just say it’s tight. So, the business is left with an overpriced variable contract book susceptible to high levels of customer attrition. Overpay your channels upfront for these ‘unsticky contracts’, that’s a business model that does not work.
There is zero internal confidence in the technology infrastructure. That’s a problem that needs to be addressed immediately

Beware
We received a thank you from Liberty Power, for switching our service.
We DID NOT switch. I'm having a hard time even contacting someone there to make sure we are NOT switched. I sure hope we don't have the same type of problems I'm reading about.

Beware
Liberty Power needs to first learn customer service skills. I really hate to generalize, but after dealing with them approximately 10 times, there was only one person (the last person who was pretty high up) who was very understanding and courteous. After helping the owners of a restaurant that I worked at deal with this call, I made the mistake of giving them my cell number. The owners, who knew very little English, called me after I had stopped working there for several months to ask if I could deal with it. I agreed. From then on, they have pestered me, even after saying several times, "We are not interested...please do not call as we are not interested...please put our numbers on a 'Do Not Call' list..." wording it in numerous ways hoping to get the message across.
They did not, and one day managed to call me repeatedly about FIVE times. I had it, and called the customer service line. My memory becomes muddled at about this time, but I either called up a specific person (could've been Erica, mentioned above) who directed me to someone pretty high up, or called customer service and got directed to this person. I told her everything that had happened. They even called me at a time when most (if not all) people do not want to receive phone calls.
She apologized, and when I said I don't even want to deal with them again due to this bad experience, she said she would put me on the do not call list.
Fast forward about a year later...
I get a phone call from them, but this time for my residential electricity. I was confused at first because they first said they were calling from Liberty Power. I did not have a good vibe, but did not quite remember. I asked if they were working with PECO, and they said yes. They then asked if they could verify a few things, and then asked if they could fax a contract. PECO did not ask for any kind of contract to be signed, and this was when I felt increasingly uncomfortable. Plus, at the time, I was rushing to leave the office, and when I said that I'll take care of this later by calling PECO, they HUNG UP. No "OK. Would you like us to call you at a more convenient time?" or "OK. Our number is XXX-XXX-XXXX, and we are assisting customers from 9-5, " or even a "Goodbye."
Seeing how 9/10 times I've had an unpleasant experience, no matter how cheap they are (which doesn't seem like it from the looks of these comments), the name 'Liberty Power' will forever have a bad stain in my memory. And if they improve on their customer service skills, it better be damn good or else it won't be enough to wipe that stain.
