I just got off work and headed to Meijer (Wixom rd.) for some quick late-night shopping (just shy of 11 pm). I picked up maybe a total of 20 items and the self-checkout register stopped 5 or 6 times to have a clerk come help me. It was quite embarrassing because it wasn't happening to the other lanes. I asked the clerk if this was normal and he said "Yes since they installed the new cameras". That is a clue right there. I have never stolen anything in my life and happened to be the only Black man in line.

Ann Arbor Jackson Rd Locations : This is the third time I’ve been to the store at night 11:00pm to be exact where I’ve bought maybe 5 items and was forced to use the self-checkout. I scan my items at a reasonable speed and place them in the back to be weighted. Each time the machine locks up and calls for an attendant where it shows a video of me scanning my items all accounted for. But why do I feel like the machine is racially profiling me and the video is so the attendant can either confirm of deny that I’m allegedly attempting to steal something. The attendant counts the items after looking at the screen and gives me a dry apology with a lame excuses as to why she has been called over. “It doesn’t that sometimes” or “the scale is off” or my favorite “it’s been doing that all day” when literally I’ve stood in line and/or watched several other non-black customers ring their items and not get flagged. It’s embarrassing and I’m over it. Thank you meijers, but no thank you I will drive the extra 10-15 blocks to get to my local Kroger
