I text my new landlord to ask him for a copy of my lease. I'm entitled to that.
Plus, to get my State ID and such, they need proof of address, etc. All those things I need a lease for.
I called section 8 today and spoke to someone who said that he had signed the contract last week sometime and should have already given me my copy of the lease with what I'm going to pay and how much y'all are going to pay. Good thing I called because I wouldn't have known that until I got the letter in the mail.
Then I called the water department right afterwards to ask what I needed to turn on water in my name. Again, I need an official copy of my lease. I explained that I don't have that nor do I have any information about how much a deposit I need to pay because I don't have knowledge of the account number the landlord used, nor is he even telling me what size the meter is or anything else I need to get that done.
He hasn't even given me a date when I'm expected to get utilities in my name.
But in retaliation, because I sent him a text asking for my official lease, he just all the sudden shut off my water utility.
I went to turn on the water and there was none.
In this state, if a landlord shuts off utilities it's illegal. Plus, I'm disabled and have a young child.
Greedy, selfish, slumlords operate that way. They're like spoiled brats that treat everyone like they are beneath them whenever they don't get their way, and they are too impatient to deal with.
The electricity was turned on in my name before we moved in. The water is more difficult because you have to have a certified copy of your lease...which my landlord is intentionally withholding.
