OEG furnace and ac rental contracts
Please. If you are or have been a customer of OEG than take the following steps to fight back.
1. Call them and give them a chance to make you a fair deal. (Spoiler alert.. not likely)
2. Make a complaint with the Ministry of Business and Consumer Services.
3. Contact the Better Business Bureau
4. Start a Small Claims Lawsuit! It’s easier than you may think and only costs $102. Start by creating a Service Ontario Account. Complete the wizard and serve your plaintiffs claim.
5. Join the class action lawsuit by Harrison Pensa. Maybe we will win and you could get compensation!

Good luck everyone who has to go through this. If you do need to terminate the contract. Don’t pay the inflated buyout price. Pay the cancellation fee, let them remove their equipment. You’ll save a lot of money this way. New furnaces and air conditioners of similar quality only cost around 2k.

Warranty & repair
Bogus company. I moved to this house where the previous owner had fallen to this Oeg scam. Luckily for me he bought the furnace and a/c for 10000$ each from Oeg. But still had to happen,my furnace was out for 2 days and this in the middle of winter where the temperature is -11, my house was at 5’C. Since under warranty with Oeg,I was trying get hold of them , first of all you cannot get hold of anyone, after I did manage to get hold of someone on the second day ,Oeg send their technician on the following day,who changed a part for my furnace. But the furnace broke down as soon as he left. Desperate I was trying again to get hold of these people. They promised to send another person following day, which never happened, their excuse the technician ditched his car in a pit. I demanded return of the money I paid as a service fee of $170 and excuses again. Finally I gave up and signed with another company and I am happy that my furnace is working well.Oeg should be shut down completely.

pushy and overcharge
In 2014 a sales rep from OEG came to my door and asked to see my furnace. I was lead to believe that he was an agent with the Ontario energy board. Once he looked at my furnace he said that I needed to replace it as well as my AC. The salesman recommended that rental would be the better option. I had only 2 days in which to decide because the were in the area and doing similar work in my neighbourhood. They came promptly removed my old equipment ( which were less than 10 years) and installed the new equipment. Within a couple months the condensation pump leaked causing water damage to my family room carpet. They did replace the pump but refused to pay for damages. In 2 years no other service was done to either piece of equipment. In January of 2017, my income was drastically reduced so I was looking at ways to cut back on expenses. When I reviewed my 15 year contract with OEG, the fine print said that they could increase payments by 3.8% annually. Over 2 years my payment went up around $12 per unit monthly so I was paying $81. per unit a month. This was drastically higher than local company quotes. When I contacted the company my options were to pay a penalty of over $5,700. or buy out their equipment for $13,000. In the end it was cheaper for me to pay the fine and purchase a brand new energy efficient furnace and AC from a local company that I trust. While they did finally remove their equipment from my home it wasn't after a lot of very stressful phone calls back and forth. They were often difficult to reach and sometimes had to leave several messages.
This ended up being a very costly and stressful mistake. I have learned that if a company tries to pressure you into making a decision than walk away. It pays to compare and do research before making any big purchase. OEG may not be doing anything illegal but they are very unscrupulous. Do NOT let these people in your home! I learned the hard way and it has cost me but I am much smarter now.

Furnace and water heater rental
I suffer from mental health problems severe enough that I am only 46 and I have been deemed too ill to work. The salesperson was aggressive even though I stated that I was too ill to discuss renting and that my mother usually handles such serious decisions, the salesman guaranteed that I would save enough money per month and my bill would decrease... This hasn't every happened. This company told me that my piping was hazardous and my that my furnace and water heater could blow up at anytime - this OEG took advantage of my mental illnesses please help!

A door sales person says he is a goverment employee
A Person arrives at my mothers home identifying himself as a government employee to my 76 year old mother which is considered blind and does not have eye surgey till next month states he must inspect her furnace to see if it meets the government safety standards. Tells my mom that it needs to be replaced and it will only cost her 3000.-3500 including installation fee. My mother allowed the replacement which was done 30 plus days ago. Found out just 3 weeks ago that money was coming out of her account to a trust company called home trust. Had the bank investigate to learn she did not buy a furnace its a rental. My mother upset calls them ands says I don't want to rent I will buy now. QUOTE for buy out 8843.25.
Are you flipping kidding me. They just toke advantage of a senior I WILL FIGHT tooth and nail. The sales person how interested cannot be reach as does not work for the company. Company will not help shame on them. Investigated more to find they are on high alert on the BBB WHICH THEY lost privilege to be a member. They currently have over 85 compliant and of coarse tons of complaints on this site of national consumer complaint forum. BEWARE OF THIS SCAM. I am now calling police for senior support for my district and my MPP AND my local newspaper. If anyone else is going thru this please call me 289 680 0786.

Possible Recourse for the scammed
I've just been visited by one of these reps, and fortunately, I'm now very suspicious, having been taken before. Despite proving on paper that I could buy 3 to 5 furnaces for the price of their 1, he still argued that I was missing the value of this service. Relentless, even when presented with undeniable facts and figures.
To all those that have been taken, please contact the Ministry of Consumer Services and file a complaint ( most of the complaints likely unfair practice). The process can take a while (huge backlog) and you might not receive a confirmation email right away but it's important to file quickly so you don't miss the time limit (I believe the consumer has 1 yr from the infraction to file). Your case might be stronger if you file quickly, while details are still fresh. The Ministry is quite powerful and their decisions against companies they find guilty of violating consumer code are legally binding. OEG should be scared of this dept of gov't. Next, send off a letter (registered looks good, but not necessary) to Ontario Energy Group and notify them of the complaint. They might ignore you, but this step is necessary as the Ministry will ask you to write to the company before they will take on your case. The Ministry is hoping that most complaints can be worked out between the parties. In your letter to OEG, make it known that you are willing to negotiate a fair settlement for the units (or whatever you think is fair, within reason) in exchange for dropping the complaint. If no more than a week has elapsed, you might be able to negotiate. If OEG ignores or refuses you, keep the correspondence and consider it more ammunition against them. I wish you all luck in getting some measure of justice. Spread the word to your neighbours and complain like crazy to every consumer organization.

Won't take NO for an answer
These men were trying to make me believe that I qualified for Gov't assistance to change the exhaust furnace pipes from black to white. Eventually they were going to try and sell be a plan to save costs. I unfortunately gave them a hydro and gas bill. I understand they copy the acc't #s down and you are stuck with a plan you didn't sign for.! How stupid was I even after all the advertising on the TV about scamming.
