Renewal
About a month before my plan needed to be renewed, I checked what the I increase would be for the new plan. Every year it goes up, s lot. I've used petplan now for 9 years. As expected, the cost went up but I was still going to keep it. When the autopsy kicked in a month later, it was almost a $500 increase, which was about $300 more than the renewal price I had agreed to. When I called up, on the same day I was billed, they told me they changed underwriters and they are charging higher premiums. They refused to refund the entire cost and said it would be prorated. I am now fighting this with my credit card company. Out and out fraud!

Another Petplan Scam
Buyer Beware.
We had coverage from Petplan for about 3 years. Our Golden Retriever was bitten by a poisonous snake in 2018 which caused her a series of related health problems. After her vet/hospital visits and long recovery we submitted our claims for re-imbursement. After submitted all that their claims department requested, they denied our $1200+ claim. Not because our claims were uncovered, but because we missed - by a few days - their internal 90 days cutoff. I called and stressed that our delay was due in large part to her continuation of health problems related to the original snake bit! But, they still denied our claims. Needless to say we feel victimized! Petplan collected years of premiums from us. We had a covered claim. They then denied it on a technicality. My advice is to avoid this insurance carrier!

Rejection of my Claim
Pet Plan insurance was looking very bright easy to use you can register and claim on line fuss free !! My puppy was only 10 months old so I thought this is perfect...
Well let me tell you I had the plan from March and my Pomeranian jumped up onto a couch and pulled her knee out of the socket.. He is only 10 month old so this was an accident he had no knee problems previously.
the vet advised that he needed surgery in order to prevent this happening again...
When this was done.... I put in my claim writing a letter that this was it was an accident....I faxed and put the claim in on line...due diligence on my part.
After two weeks I kept getting notices saying they were waiting for a Vet health record ...so I contacted my vet who said they had not ever been contacted by PET PLAN..
I myself faxed the health record and there was no prior history of knee problems..so called PET PLAN and said what's happening ???? I was told I was denied the claim and basically they were not interest in means a client. The truth of the matter is they did not have the decency to communicate with me.
Apparently if you sign up on line which they encourage you to do this becomes your demise as there is a lot of fine print that is so fine you can not find !!! they the use this against you..
Never had such bad service...Petplan pet insurance is NOT top dog!

Petplan Insurance
Everyone with a pet should be warned that Petplan is a scam. My story is like many on this page. My previous dog Maddi developed cancer. I paid for all her treatments and surgery out of my own pocket. When Maddi passed the vets told me if I got another pet I should get pet insurance. “Anything that can be done on a person can be done on a dog, but its very expensive.”
I got another dog Lainie. On her second visit to the vet she was about four months old.I purchased Petplan Insurance. A week later I returned with Lainie to the vets office for the remainder of her shots. At this visit my four month dog was examined and the vet thought she felt a click in one of Lainies hips. Nothing to worry about the vet said we’ ll keep eye on it. Probably just the result of a growth spurt, to early to judge , she’ll most likely grow out of it. No X-rays, No Tests .To show you how deep this racket runs the vet then told me about Petplan and advised me to purchase it, “just in case.”
Months later Lainie didn’t get any better. Finally X-rays were done. Tests were run. Lainie has one hip that is 30% formed and her other hip is not in place at all. The head of her femur is deformed and not even near the socket. Lainie was in pain.
We took Lainie to Cornell University Vets. They were suppose to be the one of the best and affordable. There were local vets who could do the surgery, but the cost was almost two thousand dollars more. We were willing to drive and stay there, knowing that we would have to pay these expenses. We thought that it offered Lainie the best opportunity and it was fair to take the lower price. We submitted our claim to Petplan. Petplan refuses to cover my claim based on a pre-existing condition.
This was surprising for several reasons. Upon the results of the tests and the X-rays I called Petplan. I told them my story, and they looked at the paper work in their possession. After all they had her entire medical file from a previous claim they denied as a deductible. Lainie was only a year old with no problems, only that she was spayed. The women on the phone told me it seemed to be a covered claimed. Petplan refuses to cover my claim based on a pre-existing condition. They didn’t pay any of the $600 for
the Cornell visit claiming a new deductible, not that it was money paid for a pre-existing condition.
Now my Lainie is to live her life in pain, because now she does have a pre-existing condition thanks to Petplan. Petplan scammed me for a year and a half without ever paying a dime. A warning to all. The Pet insurance business is just another way to
take advantage of people

Pet Plan
I apologise. My plan with all 3 of my lolicues is I pay first $50 of each accident/ condition and thereafter I am to be covered for the remaining 100%.
I had ASPCA insurance when my Golden was a tiny pup. Their premuims were higher, however, I only had to attach the receipt to the form. The vet did not need to fill anything out.
There wwre several reasons I, now very regretfully, switched.
With ASPCA I paid $100 a year. Thereafter claims were reimbursed at 80%.
The plan I had covered shots, spaying, accidents/illness. My plan also covered 80% of heartworm and flea/tick preventative.
When I'd submit my claim they'd pay a portion stating that my vet charged "X" amount but should have only charged "Z" amount, therefore my reimbursement would be for the 80% of "Z" amount which could be a decent difference.
Also at that time ASPCA did NOT cover chronic conditions (i.e. cancer, diabetes, allergies) nor did they cover alternative treatments such as Hydrotherapy, accupuncture, etc. Having had another Golden who greatly benefitted from Hydrotherapy I was glad that was an option with Pet Plan. Looks great on paper but good luck getting reimbursed.
I believe ASPCA insurance has changed some since I left them as a customer a while back so I can not say how their policies
compare at the moment. I can only tell you my horrid experiences with Pet Plan.
As mentioned in previous post I am in the process of taking this further and I would like to give Pet Plan the chance to fairly remedy the situation. I don't know how that will turn out but I will keep everyone informed.
I have kept my end of the agreement and I can only hope they follow ethical business practises and do the right thing for their customers.

Pet Plan Pet Insurance
I've had Pet Plan on my Golden for almost 3 years. I have paid premiums faithfull for their best plan as my my animals are my life. I want to make sure they have the best possible.
She sees her vet for her regular shots/exams as well as when needed.
I then adopted 2 cats. Both had previoys vet records from their first rescuer who unexpectedly passed.
I enrolled both in Pet Plan believing I was giving them the best as well. I had tried to "research" all companies befire deciding on this one. I took my marmalade tabby to the vet as he had watery eyes, sneezing. Was a cat virus and prescribed lysibe which solved peoblem. I did not submit a claim. Vet recommwnded I have his teeth cleaned and said "may" have to extract a few but unsure until he is under anaesthesia. There was no diagnosis of any sort of "pre-existing" conditions. I submitted his vet records from previous owner as well. Unfortunately his teeth had to be removed as vet deemed necessary. I submitted claim. I asked ONLY for the 80% reimbursement on extractions. I would gave paid the remaining as my decision to have dental cleaning. Was told emphatically that Pet Plan does cover extractions however claim was denied based on "pre-existing conditions!" NO WHERE IN HIS VET RECORDS WAS THERE ANY MENTION OF DENTAL/ GUM DISEASE. This was found only because I decided to have his teeth cleaned. He had been insured for several months when this occurred!
My other cat, whom has only 1 eye due to abuse as a kitten, was exhibiting excessive tearing. A day later eye discharge was green and thick so I took her to am emergency appointment. I'm not risking her only good eye. An emergency allointment is about $15 more but I opted to pay that on my own. It turned out to be a tiny scratch underneath and she was prescribed an optic antibiotic ointment. When submitted claim for her (only claim on her) it was denied stating "pre-existing conditions."
Baffled. She has NEVER HAD A SCRATCH OR EYE DISCHARGE BEFORE. Pet Plan has all of her vet records as well. The vet must fill out the diagnosis part of form and sign. I then fax or mail. The denied claims are not even reviewed and it's a standard form letter I received for each denial. No explanation and when called representatives could only tell me "underwriting" makes these decisions. I have the ulta-premium plan on ALL 3 of my animals. I pay over $105 a month for their "coverage" and the agreement is that I pay the first $50 of any incident. They in turn "promised" to reimburse me for 80% of remaining.
My Golden, at about age 2, was consistently gnawing on her back feet until red and raw. Our wonderful vet (penn educated) did allergy tests and it was determined her feet had yeast due to allergies to turkey, pork, dust mites. The bloodwork was almost $500 and vet said should be covered as allergy testing was deemed medically necessary. Claim was DENIED! Yep, "PRE-EXISTING" conditions. She has seen this vet since 8 weeks and has NEVER had yeast on her feet. NEVER!
I'm in the process of taking this further but in the meantime I'd like to let everyone know my experiences. I have paid well over a couple grand in premiums to Pet Plan for their best plan. It is automatically deducted each month in 3 separate payments as each animal has their own policy. No, they "can not" do 1 payment for all.
Pet Plan sends out a magazine periodically. I get 1 copy (but I have 3 policies.) WHY is it they can consolidate this?
In the past 3 years what I have paid in premiums for "the best" supposedly could have been put away in an interest bearing account to be used when medical emergencies as previously mentioned do arise. My animals have gotten the best care
regardless of not being reimbursed and that will continue to be the case.
In the meantime keep your money for your animals care and DO NOT give to Wharton educated business executives whose interests do not include your beloved pet.

Defrauds customers
I am having problems with PetPlan, too.
I have faxed all the required documents to them twice and they keep putting a status that I have not sent in the
1. claim form
2. release form
3. invoice
It has been 2 months now.
This seems like a stall.
Then, I bet, what will happen after the stall is they will find that 4/5's of the bill is not covered.
They have done this before and pay a mere fraction of the total bill.
Does anyone know of a reputable pet insurance company?
So far, everyone has been a scam. This pet insurance industry is in serious need of regulation.
