We called roto rooter for a problem with our toilet backing up every time my husband took his shower in the master bathroom. They came out and "Unplugged" the toilet but also sent a salesman to upsell our repair. They ran a camera and told us that we needed to remove a "tee" and replace it with a "wye" in order to fix the backup. They also said they would smooth out the pipes and coat them with a spray and use a UV light to harden it immediately. For 5k I agreed to this repair. However, the day of the repair they walked back the agreement and said they never told me that they would smooth out the pipes and coat them, that would be a 20k repair instead. So, the repairman worked on replacing the "tee" with the "wye," however, my husband, thank goodness, took pictures throughout the repair. What we discovered was there was no "tee" there at all and he took out the existing metal "wye" with a plastic one...identical in shape otherwise. It was unnecessary and then the patch job in the cement was messy and just awful. I called the Roto Rooter office only to be told, word for word, the original agreement that we had with them for the smoothing and coating of the pipes! BAM! Gotcha! So, I was connected with a manager who then told me, "Well, I guess we owe you 5k, don't we?" And I said, "Yes, you do!" We haven't heard from them ever since that call. Then I find in my research that they had a class action lawsuit against them in 2011 for this very thing.
