scanner problem results in handicapped veteran being accused of stealing
today, 10 May $8.482021, my army veteran husband who had a stroke 2 years which affects his hearing and speech went to this sams store. he pushed his cart to the checkout line and the clerk unloaded each item, scanned it, then reloaded the items into another cart. upon leaving and having the usual security guy scan his receipt and items in the cart, the security guy claimed a box of ice cream bars wasn't paid for. he held up my husband with his accusatory comments, then called the checkout clerk. the clerk denied missing the item. how could my husband 'steal' ice cream bars when the clerk touched all items and scanned them. husband was then sent to wait in line at the customer service window and paid for the bars. he came home very upset. Now i am very upset! as a computer professional, i believe it was a defective scan and the clerk didn't listen to the scan beep to insure the scan took. even though the clerk scanned the item and it didn't take, she claimed no error was made on her part. my husband was treated terribly, embarrassed, and humiliated because sam's doesn't do prevention maintenance on their scanners. he has been severely depressed this week and this just added to his depression. how DARE employees imply he was trying to steal a a $8.48 item! if i'd been with him i would have torn cut up my sam's card there on the spot, demanded a refund for all items that went thru the scanner correctly, and we would have never entered a sam's store again. you ask why i wasn't with him? i was at home with contractors. and after being an Army Colonel for 28 years it does him good to shop on his own. you have set back his recovery tremendously! you will give him a formal apology or i will go to the local and international news on how sam's treats it's handicapped customers. attached is his receipt and the receipt for the ice cream bars. you can see the store number, manager, and all the info on then. we have a million dollar portfolio and could easily afford a box of ice cream bars!
