Bad, possible unlawful practices
I am a parent of a teen that just started working at Sonic. I am appalled at what these managers think they can get away with telling these kids! I guess they think they do not know any better! Let me start by saying...if you are going to pay your carhops hourly+ tips as the business you need to make this obvious and doable to your consumers!!! There is absolutely no signage that states these carhops work for tips! And to make matters worse, when a patron pays with a credit card, they are unable to tip! Come on, I am sure more than 50% of the customers pay via debit...so how are these kids suppose to get a tip?? And here is the kick in the teeth. If the employee fails to make enough tips to bring their hourly wage to minimum, they are counseled and then threatened if they do not do better they will be fired. My son's manager even tried to tell him that the money to bring him up to minimum comes out of their paycheck!!! Really?? I am sure it affects their payroll budget and therefore this person does not get a bonus, but that is far from coming out of their paycheck, which by the way would be illegal. And lets add insult to injury.....these employees are given certain duties along with car hoping that can prevent them from getting out to a car if there is more than one carhop on duty. My son has had to do drink station for drive thru and carhops and work drive thru intermittently, which left the other carhop free to take all the customers. How is that fair or helping your employees meet your expectations? These kids are not making jack, even with tips....but sorry the practices with Sonic are wrong. My son mentioned their is a high turnover, I cannot imagine why? I waited tables in college, and if you did not walk away with many tips...it was your lose, no one threatened to fire you. However in a restaurant even a buffet style, people know to tip. They sit down at a table and are served. The general public sees these carhops as glorified drive thru attendants. I know the above is common practice within the Sonic franchise as I know another individual that worked at one in another town and experienced the same issues.
I will also say, and this is more individual store issue. My son's manager is unapproachable and threatens anyone who attempts to speak with her about any problems or concerns with being written up.
Sonic should be ashamed of itself...they are very obviously not concerned with their employees as a whole with these kind of practices!

Sonic
I went into that Location they have been opened for only 6months I over heard the Employee's Complaining that they work 36 to 40hrs per week and the take home pay was $90.00 how do they expect those worker's to survive on that I strongly believe that there is things that that location is doing to the worker's that is against the law so I'm going to contacted BBB to do a investigation.

Employee complaint
This location is ran by undercover racists and their actions represent their true feelings. We just had a girl get fired for noticing that the black managers work on holidays while the others are off. The crazy part is that she hasn't been there that long and already notices. We just had a black guy get fired for calling out of work to take care of his sick sister, meanwhile one of the GM's little minions shows up late to work with hangovers, and doesn't even call saying he'll be late. This same little minion always has racist "N" word jokes to say among his friends and the GM. If that guy gets a complaint, the GM will say the customer is lying. Oh & The same black guy who got fired was the same black guy who was slapped by a white manager and there were no consequences for the manager, as a matter of fact...when the GM was alerted that the guy was slapped, SHE WROTE HIM UP. Our hiring manager recently quit but she wasn't allowed to hire people with "black" names or if they sounded "black" she was supposed to hang up or discontinue the hiring process altogether. You'd probably say why don't you just tell her supervisor..well he's her husband & he takes up for his wife because they are both the same. At this point, I'm just here because it's hard to get a job elsewhere.

Sonic 3804 Summer Avenue
It is imperative that people are properly trained to do a job. All management at this location leave so very much to be desired. I have ordered here and the professionalism that comes across the speaker is awful. I notice that I must ask for fresh food or I will more than likely send it back in. Whatever happened to people being glad to have a job and love doing it.

Christmas gift
I have been working at sonic for some months now and I have been top employee few times I work two jobs and worked my butt off. The management at the sonic I use to work at is very unprofessional and allows any and everything go on at this store . I was being harrased all night this particularly busy night we were having by a coworker then the GM came in to help out because we were slammed he started screaming things at me to do so we could get out of the weeds. And I respond only ok I heard u or I got it dropped I ended up getting let go at the end of the night because I had a smart mouth which I didn't I told my GM about what the other employee had been doing to me all night saying rude sexual things to me and barking orders at me while I was busy doing my job before he came in . He told he doesn't know or care what happened then but I was fired. Him along with 3 assistant mangers all live together and they have their favorites up there that they let do whatever they want . They all come in when they want to get however many hours they want and theirs a lot of drug activity going on up there between management and employees. After we failed and then passed our inspection everything that our GM put on a show for went out the window . It's nasty in that store there's bugs crawling around only me and one other employee wore gloves in the kitchen the food gets sent out raw and undone . I had two weeks of free food when I worked there and I didn't eat anything that's how horrible it is. There's this cook Daniel who is always trying to sell addarol to me he is the one who was barking orders at me and making sexual comments at me and I was very uncomfortable and my GM Ddid not care. Sonic on hwy.82 in Columbus Ms is a joke I appreciate the opportunity to work for sonic but the management at this sonic is childish rude and some management and employees make u uncomfortable with all the sexual talk the managers get their employees numbers out of their file and gives that person's numberout to anyone I don't want my number given out to just anyone that is my personal information that I don't just want given out . The management plays around with the young crowd up there and let's them talk to them any kind of way but I get fired and told I had a attitude and smart mouth for giving a response to something that was yelled at me .I have myself asked one of the managers about a sore on her lip just joking like always I asked her if she had gotten ahold of some bad pussy just kidding with her . She is one of the 3 managers that live with our GM and I feel like all of them have been very rude and unprofessional towards me the past couple of weeks as well as towards others and have been pushing me to quit and when I didn't bug I got fired I am filing for unemployment now until I can find another job my second job I had was just seasonal and I really hope something is doneabout this sonic and the management that inspector or someone needs to come up there surprisingly and see how things are run and how employees smoke and do drugs out in the parking lot and see how nasty that store is I know sonic is suppose to be Christian based but this particularly sonic is not living up to that at all

Assistant Manager is Unexceptable
The Assistant Manager Is Awful In Salida Colorado. She is rude and slow and when you complain she cooks your food hard and cant keep employee help here. She is the worst manager I have encountered and feels she can get away with anything. So I am attempting to go outside our store to get the help our town should get here by telling and hoping she is dealt with appropriately. Her name is Shawna and I dont know how she has stayed here this long only in the fact she has not been properly reported for her behavior. Thank you I hope this reaches someone WHO CARES how sonic looks to its customers.

Mistreatment of employees
I worked for sonic for about four months before I walked out and quit the other day. I constantly would tell my store manager Michael how his morning manager would treat me. I was hired as a manager here. Her name is Ashley, and she would swear at me talk smack to me say horrible things about how I'm not good enough I suck etc. Etc.sometimes in the earshot of customers. Michael decided his way to resolve how Ashley had been treating me was to cut me back from 40 hours a week to 20. This is why I quit not only are you going to allow her to disrespect me over and over again but your gonna cut my hours for it. I have watched numerous at least 15-20 people walk out and quit this store over the way Ashley has treated them. Nothing's being done! I will highly advise no one to go anywhere near any sonic don't eat at them don't spend any money there. Cause if this is the way your going to allow your franchise owners to treat their employees you deserve no business! Not to mention not a single cook including the store manager at the sonic on hwy 155 in flint, tx, ever wears gloves while handling your ready to eat food which is against the health code in smith county!

problem with bbuying bagged ice
I always have to deal with the same thing EVERY SINGLE YEAR IN THE SUMMER! Everything was fine up until a week ago. I love Sonic's ice...always have and probably always will. The problem is that every single summer they supposedly have issues with their ice machine. Now I went higher than the store manager or any manager at the store and got ahold of I believe it was a regional manager...due to this happening for the past 4 years. Very frustrated and pissed at how the managers handled things I took it upon myself to go higher. Well it worked finally after 3 years of dealing with this frustration...regional manager which I believe his name was David or Daniel...can't quite remember...made an arrangement to get the store a brand new ice machine. So everything was fine for awhile....so I thought....turns out they aren't selling bags of ice right now. Round and round we go! I should also add that the problem with all this is they're advertising bags of ice everywhere...especially the one that sits right on the drive thru speaker...lol...that's one thing that bothers me. I mean come on...if you can't kick out the bags of ice anymore due to your "ICE MACHINE BEING BROKEN" then take down your advertisements and do things right. I mean come on do we all have to tell you people how to do your jobs...THINK! PLEASE!
Anyhow I will be calling the store again...to get the information that I need to fix this problem. Just want to say that it's only the sonic drive in on 51st ave. and Baseline Rd. So I'm having to drive about 15 minutes up to sonic on 51st ave. and McDowell Rd. and 15 minutes back home...which my bag of ice has water at the bottom of my bag by the time I get home. that's just sad that I have to do that if I really want their ice.

unprofessional management
I have worked at sonic for 10 months. And just walked put today cause of the way things are ran. And I have seen about 10 to 12 people walk out in this 10 month period, all because of management. Two managers screaming across the table at each other while customers were able to hear. There are managers that get mad and will throw things at you if you aren't moving fast enough and I don't mean small things I mean bags of tater tots or food. They are not about the customer when it comes to social skills. The customer is not always right.

loved sonic, until i moved
I worked at a different sonic for 2 years and I loved it! Never had any problems, made friends with all managers and co workers. Then I moved to another sonic location. Right away I noticed how uncomfortable I was with the boss. He constantly made sexual jokes, as did other employees. Even though I was an experienced manager, I was constantly belittled by my staff. People would constantly talk about my body behind my back, with the general manager even saying that I had "womanly curves". I never filed any sexual harassment, but I should have. I also did not get paid what a manager should be paid. My boss also never allowed any of us to take a break longer than 15 min, and we had to clock out when we did, only if we had a 9 hour shift he would let us. He would also not adhere to our schedules and refused to hire more people, so we had to break our backs. I could go on for hours about what happened here. But, when I finally put my two weeks in, my boss threw a fit. It was very unprofessional.
I think I deserve more respect than this. I love sonic, but the way I was treated here... Unforgivable.

Managment
I have a store manager named Kevin and I guess a shift manager named Dana. Kevin hires me on as a cook. I learned how to use the fryer for one night then he started scheduling for morning shifts that are supposed to be for four hours. I had assumed that I would be learning how to prep and cook more food in the morning, but I was wrong. I'm his cleaning lady apparently. I get there at 6 AM and he immediately's hands me the pressure washer and a bucket and tells me to clean. Once I finish these tasks he sends me home. Granted I've only been there a week so far, but this is ridiculous. I had asked him earlier this morning if I would be cooking anytime soon and he replied with an "I don't know yet". So, later on after he disappears for an hour Dana comes in and I was waiting to clean the drive thru window because that is what I was told to do. She started being rude to me for no reason. I had informed her that Kevin did not want me to be in the kitchen (the job I was hired for) and to clean the windows and she just kept giving me attitude. (The drive thru window was an extra bit because the other shift manager asked me to do it, so I was going to). After the incident with the oh so very young and incompetent shift manager, I had left because everything else I was asked to do was done and Kevin had told me to go home when I had finished.
The point is, I'm not doing the job I was hired for, not getting the hours I had been scheduled for and get told to go home after only an hour. California law is a two hour minimum, I was not given a paper to sign about my one hour early leave. I am NOT someones cleaning lady and I am not hired as a maid; I was hired as a cook.

Unacceptable management
I have been working for sonic on getwell road memphis tn for about two months and I have noticed that workers are coming in under the influence of drugs. They come in smelling like them and everything and not one manager has anything to say when they do. I do not feel that this should be acceptable if we were obligated to take drug test these things wouldn't be happening. It makes a bad look on the company and just for me speaking on it to a manager I was fired for no reason I don't think that was right.

rude and bad service
My sister and In went to Sonic on7/1/2014 at 4:30pm in Clifton, CO for 5 drinks. We ordered at 4:30 Diet Strawberry limeade, strawberry limeade, Sweet tea, small sweet tea, small sprite. we waited for 20 minutes and finally pushed the button to see what was taking so long. The person said" they would see what was taking so long", we did not hear anything then 5 minutes later out came the car hop with the limeades and no tea, she said "they are brewing tea they were out". I said you mean it takes 25 minutes to brew tea and it still is not ready! She said "mam I can have the manager come and talk to you", I replied "yes do have her come out". Out comes this so called manager who informed me that "she thinks what happened was they did not see they needed tea until they went to fill our order" I replied "then you need to retrain you crew because this is ridiculous waiting 30 minutes for our drinks". She said "the only thing I can do for you is cancel your order" I replied "what benefit is that when I have people waiting on those drinks, that is why we came here is because they have horses and we were trying to save them time so the horses did not have to wait any longer". "Well then there is nothing I can do for you" replied the manager. Then 31 minutes after we ordered we received the 2 teas we were waiting for. When the car hop came out I said in a stern voice "do you have our drinks?' She said "you don't have to be rude to me I have not done any thing to you". Now I have waited 31 minutes for my last 2 ice teas and I am not suppose to be upset. And get this guess what she did. I only have use of 1 hand so as I was trying to hand off the drinks she through the straws at me and left. Now I am REALLY mad and I want her fired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How does Sonic view marriage of employees? At the Many,LA site the manager and the assistant manager have been married for over a month now and no one has gotten transferred. I do believe this is a conflict of interest for the organization and unfair to other employees. Can someone please do something?

Very unprofessional manager behavior
I am from Anderson passing through Easley when I went to sonic, I notice someone from my town serve me, I knew him cause we went to school together and he is on the sex offender list. This Sonic In Easley is less than a Mile from the middle school and his charges are COMMIT OR ATTEMPT LEWD ACT ON CHILD <16!! OMG I cant belive they would hire him. Much less his name tag had a different name and said he was like the Manager, he in the store with young high school girls who are not told the truth about who they are left alone with.
http://www.homefacts.com/offender-detail/SC650783/Cristian-Ganahl.html
We need to be more aware of sexual predators movements in our area this seems unreasonable!! This is my only and last time back at this horrible place that would let people like that near children!
