I was recently fired from my 'easytech' position at Staples #0409 for a conflict of interest(I fix Apple computers on my own time). As Staples does not fix Apple products(confermed on website and all stores within and 50 mile radius) I do not see how I am competing with staples computer repair. The general manager said it is as bad as stealing money from the company, but the company would never have made a cent on any computer I've repaired because I work on Apple computers and they do not. To top it all off it is well knows that every other 'easytech' employee fixes computers at the store, but non of them have been fired, even worse many of them steal parts from the recycled computers(who is really stealing money from the company?). Also I never signed a non-compete contract or clause(and in CA both are illegal).
