My wife is retiring in January 2019 and I am retiring 6 months later. We are both in excellent health, no medical issues, exercise 3 times a week and eat healthy. My wife will be losing her benefits at the end of 2018 so we applied for Personal Health Insurance in Aug. 2018. 4 months later on Dec. 20 2018 I receive a letter informing me that my application has been denied due to information supplied by my Doctor. I contacted my doctor and he informed me that there was not anything in my records that would deny an application. Sun Life refuses to tell me why they denied my application and stated that they will not review their decision.
They obtained my medical record and now refuse to disclose their findings and refuse to discuss their decision. What kind of a company is this. I realize that insurance companies are in business to make money and that the underwriters job is to find reasons not to insure someone but this is unacceptable that they hide behind a letter with their decision. I will be contacting the Ombudsman after I exhaust my complaints with Sun Life directly. My guess is that they will not respond.
