I would like to share my story with you in the hope that it will inspire you to reach for your dreams just as I have.

Firstly I would like to say that I am truly grateful for everything that has happened to me. Even the difficult times were an absolute blessing because they taught me so much. I don't believe that hard times have to turn you in to a hard person.

I come from the South West of England, it's a beautiful area for the most part. Although my start in life was very humble in a not so sought after area!

I lived in clothes from charity shops and I remember my parents writing out their shopping list before they went shopping putting the price of everything next to the item so that they could make sure they could afford it before they went, there were always items eliminated after totting it all up. There was a very tight budget!

I didn't mind being poor but then I knew no other way. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that I, along with others like me, were treated as though we didn't matter, either ignored or looked down upon.
I always had a sense that I didn't belong for as long as I can remember and had no idea what I was going to do with my life. I just knew somehow that it would all work out and it did!

When I was 16 I got a weekend job washing charter boats, it was here, at work that I met my partner (who I am still with by the way!) Very soon we were inseparable and to cut a long story short we bought a small yacht and sailed away together.

Over the past year we have worked and travelled our way to some amazing places. I have worked on some awesome super yachts as deckhand, chef and captain. I worked very hard for my bosses and really thought I was superwoman, working 16 hour days and sleeping 4 hours a night was the norm. I was full of energy and enthusiasm. It helped of course that as a yacht captain my wage was impressive, especially for a 20 something year old girl!

I should have known that I couldn't continue like that forever, two years ago my body put a stop to it. I had a big cyst on my pancreas, I found out about it when it burst whilst I was working on some scaffolding around the yacht I worked on.

I very almost died that day from shock due to internal bleeding, I was so lucky to get to the hospital in time and even luckier that my partner was there to tell the medical staff what to do because they were just going to leave me in a room and observe me over night. Health care outside of the UK isn't always great!

This event, it seems, was a blessing in disguise. During my recovery I had a lot of time on my own and for the first time really thought about what I wanted from life. It wasn't another grueling schedule that is for sure!
I began planning a new life, with a company called Tvi.

Now, I live in Portugal, I have a beautiful plot of land, I grow my own vegetables and I have a successful online business funding my countryside dream. Every day I wake up in heaven with nothing but natural beauty all around me.

This year I am planning to travel to some new places, safe in the knowledge that as long as I have my laptop with me I have the freedom to do as I please.

It is hard to write about oneself, unless you write a book there is a lot left out! However, I hope this has given you an idea. Most of all I hope that it has encouraged you, wherever you are from, to take risks and reach for your dreams.
