I was retrenched from my company on the 31st May 2016 after working for my company for 5 years. On the 6th of June, I took all required documents to my local Uif offices to start claims process (NB: i contacted uif dept prior to ensure i had all the correct documentation). After sitting in the que for 5 hours (notably i arrived at the offices at 5:30am). Speaking to a consultant i was told i didnt have a certain bank authorisation form, which was emphasised was important. I was sent to another consultant who had these bank authorisation form. I needed to fill out and go back in the que. By then i was fuming and decided to confront both consultants. In my stack of documents was an original, stamped, signed and dated authorisation and bank clearence form, from my bank. After much urguing my claim was finally captured. I received an sms immediately confirming claim. I was happy. I was also instructed to return on the 6th july to sign for my 1st payment. When asked what docs should i have with me, it was stated just the bank clearance form and the signing register and my id. All was good.
I returned on the 6th of July for my 1st payment signing. The process was much smoother although you have to be at the offices 3 hours before opening time, which is 8am. An sms was received instantanously after signing for 1st payment. Message read: 1st payment would be in 7 to 10 working days. I had hope.
I was told to return on the 15th Aug 2016 for my next Uif payment and so on.
I waited for payment till the 28th July 2016. Giving it at least 15 working days. No payment was received. I called in to the local offices only to be sworn by the consultant and told to wait for payment as i was not the only person in South Africa to claim. My heart just sank. It was true what he had said, i was, not the only person to claim but i was someone who contributed to Uif for the past 10 years of my working life and i was entitled to be concerned and frustrated.
By now my husband had applied to work overseas. And was accpeted. Its now the 13th Aug 2016. Still no payment received. I call again, and im told that if i received an sms the money will come. I knew i was to attand on the 15th for the next signing so i would enquire then.
Unfortunately my husband and i were flown out of the country on the 15th Aug 2016. I never received any communication or payment from Uif SA to date.
It is rather sad and frustrating that we are forced to pay these amounts but will never receive them. I endured more costs and heartache trying to claim for funds that i was actually entitled to. i am now told by a friend that unclaimed funds get forfieted. Which is totally ridiculous. The process and policy is a bunch of nonsense, which only benefits the Gov.
