I was laid off at work in October 2014 and I managed to apply for my UIf payout at around May - June of 2015. I submitted everything that was required to the offices of Labour department in Benoni. I was asked to come and check on the status of my claim a couplsof times each time being given something new that hinderes the success of my claim.

Time was already running out by then as one is only given 9 months to place a claim. On my last visit to ch k how thongs were progressing I was told that I am missing one certificate of service from my previous employer Unilever it sounded like I had a broken service with them since my engagement with them. I had worked for them since 20th January 1992 till I left them in 2010 end Feb, with no broken service the service certificates attesting to this were provided but the records of the labour department were showing this broken record.

It became hard to get the extra certificate thus my UIF was forfeited without me earning a dime.
