My favourable review from December 2011

We rented from a VRBO listing for Villa Delfin, West Bay, Roatan, Honduras for 2 weeks Jan.21 to Feb. 4, 2012. Presently there are 2 listings for this place on VRBO #197931 for the 4 bdrm luxury house with pool and #383515 Studio apartment. We rented the 1 bdrm. apartment indicated in both listings. The pictures and description lead you to believe that this is a "luxury villa", well no luxury here! We arrived to a run down, mold covered and severely neglected villa. The path to the green plunge pool is overgrown and dangerous and the outdoor furniture is very weathered and moldy. We went inside to what appeared to be a clean, suitable apartment. Once the bug spray wore off we were infested with rivers of ants streaming out of the electrical outlets. We spoke to the owner(??) Carleen Lay regarding this and she said do not leave food out and they will go away. We went and purchased 2 large cans of Raid to alleviate and it did not stop them from there march. After several days we again brought this to the attention of Carleen who then had the cleaning lady come in. The next morning we awoke to find them in our bed and clothes. We again went to Carleen telling her we would not be willing to stay under these conditions. She said she completely understood but asked for the opportunity to clean again to resolve the issue. She also had told us her sad tale to justify the condition of the place, she was needing money from rentals so she could do some desperately needed maintenance. We gave her the day to clean but upon our return we found the ants still streaming form the outlets and inside the cupboards. We immediately told her that we would be leaving the next day and would see her in the morning for a refund for the unused portion of our stay and deposit. She said she did not have the money in her safe but would call when she did. Funny that a few days prior she had begged us to give her cash for the balance of our stay as she did not like the fees from Paypal, they even drove us to the bank machine and now has no money. To date she has refused to refund our money and has only submitted a $200.00 refund for the damage deposit through Paypal. Shame on us for being so stupid as to give her cash and shame on her for showing no integrity or honesty! We had to spend extra money we could not afford to complete our stay in Roatan. We had a 2 bedroom apartment that had no bugs and glass to drink out of, not plastic like Villa Delfin (I guess that was luxury plastic)! We were even able to have a fruit bowl on the counter that never once gave us a problem. Beware of Villa Delfin on Tamarind Drive in West Bay, Roatan and Carleen Lay. Don't let her bad business ruin your holiday!

Smear campaign! Shame on you!! I personally stayed at Villa Delfin in Dec. 2011. The pictures in the web site are accurate. The place is clean and well kept. The owners are very accommodating and friendly. As for ants, it is a jungle. You must be vigilant with leaving food out on counters. It's like that in every home on the island. I know as I visit Roatan regularly and have stayed in many homes.The villa is much better as it is concrete with tight fitting doors and window. I would highly recommend staying at the villa.
