MLTC-Elder Abuse

I would NOT recommend this MLTC program. The nursing directors of the upstate region reported my MOTHER to adult protective when they received a paper from her rehab stating she was discharged to the local hospital for observation. They have been harassing my mother since she joined the program. They told her she would be allowed to take her home on May 1st and did not have doctors orders in place. They refused her 12/12 split after her doctor requested several times. My mother was on the CD Choices program in Albany as a paid caregiver. She was discharged from the program because she worked too many hours. VNSNY insisted on the LIVE-IN 24 hour, which means an aide only gets paid 13 hours and must stay 24. Which resulted in my grandmothers fall out of bed. She broke her hip and femur. My grandmothers doctor requested grab bars, they sent a letter that they had to ACCESS the situation. Well, because of their neglect from a doctors order, my poor grandmother is fighting her life. My grandmother pays a LARGE surplus for her MLTC. Reporting families to adult protective is harassment, what they should be doing is getting her medical bed and equipment in place for her to come back to her family, instead they choose to HARASS our family. My grandmother is now WORSE than ever because of the neglect of this MLTC. She has declined because of this fall, and yes the grab bars would have been a great help but they ignored my mothers requests. If anyone knows how to caregive it would be my mother, she is more knowledgeable than the average person. She took care of my brother who had Ewing's Sarcoma for 5 years til he passed away. My mom is above all the most caring person putting others before her own needs. VNSNY you should be ashamed of yourselves. Her dignity as an elderly disabled person has been violated and abused by the system.

Performance Failure

The Visiting Nurse Service of New York(VNSNY) failed to provide me with timely, high quality, residential post-operation Nursing, Physical Therapy, and and Personal Healthcare Assistant Services per the earlier Agreement. VNSNY failed to show up for the meeting with me(the patient)at the hospital to establish the service delivery schedule starting immediately upon my discharge.

The VNSNY Nurse first showed up at my residence TWO DAYS after my hospital discharge and the Personal Healthcare Assistant showed up FIVE DAYS after my discharge. My Surgery was major, I was non-ambulatory, taking strong pain-killer medication, and was a senior citizen living alone. The delays in providing services by VNSNY were medically risky and I was unable to perform a number of daily life support functions.

The VNSNY Nurse examinations missed several detecting several health issues, many service visits were cancelled/rescheduled by VNSNY, and there were a number of cases where VNSNY simply did not show up for scheduled appoints without even telling me beforehand.

VNNSNY actually erroneously determined that my Health Insurance had expired and cancelled all my services without even telling me beforehand. My health insurance provider(for over 30 years) called them and services were restored after a lapse. My health Insurance provider had to assign both a case manager and one of their staff nurses to frequently monitor VNSNY's actual performance.

My attempts to resolve these problems in-process were uniformly unsuccessful and I found VNSNY extremely difficult to deal with. There were very long telephone wait/hold times and I was unable to find any VNSNY staff that were knowledgeable, willing to become involved with the problems, and empowered to solve the problems. I have since filed formal written complaints with the Chairman of VNSNY, the Chief Executive Officer, two Senior Vice Presidents, and two relevant Vice Presidents. My formal complaints however have been ignored to date.
