I made a petition a year ago and it seemed that one department did not communicate with the other. I went to the third party with all my documentation showing that they got everything they asked for even though they stated they did not. I retook the class got a B the teacher initially was working with me but did not keep her end of the bargain. It is now under review by the third party.

Another petition l was unable to get it to go though online due to technical difficulties sent it with word to my advisor undergraduate dept etc. It is now August and l have no feedback. My advisor assured me she would put my word version in on the next petition. She did not do that. Now she e mailed me a word version of a petition. Now this lag in activity can affect my gpa.Thats a problem and she did keep her agreement

No need in repeating all the same issues as others have experienced and described here. I also completed my course worse in sort order, attended residencies all in preparation for my dissertation. Being a military member I was deployed numerous times, actives and moved several times. I continued to keep on track as best I could and seemed to be tricked in tacking leave of absences. Finally I had enough, after years of being told I was passing, continuing to get satifactory graded every term my chair changed and failed me the very first term with him. My entire work process and participation expectation completely change. Not only did the new chair have unrealistic expectations he informed me that my dice rotation that I thought I had been making headway on for several years was unauthorized and would not be allowed. I would love to join others in addressing the issues with Waldens practices. The school changed my program several times, unable to provide a certificate because my course work now does not line up with a program I sit he without any recourse other than to pay a huge student loan hill that Walden tricked me into racking up.

Began my doctorate program with Walden University in September 2003. Completed all required course work before beginning the dissertation process. Problem!!! The course work (mostly independent white papers on a sundry of business management topics) did NOT prepare me for the dissertation process. Why? Walden knew that if they had prepared its ABD (all but dissertation) students with significant courses related to the PROCESS of writing a dissertation (URR, ethical reviews, etc.) they would not make as much money. Fast forward to 2009 - my dissertation process took me two years to complete. Why? My dissertation chair refused to accept my methodology. So I changed it. Then, another member of the dissertation committee (brought on 1 1/2 years later) felt that he didn't like my research - even the title! THEN . . . the another member of the committee suddenly left the university. University failed to notify me; but, I couldn't move forward until the committee member was replaced (all the while, I'm being required to pay tuition). I did complete the program . . . 11 years and $200k in debt (my credit is so messed up). Why did I continue to attend Walden? At the point in which I knew that the school was scamming me - it was too late. I had to complete it (borrowing from parents, taking out credit cards to pay tuition, deeper and deeper into debt). It was better to have my doctorate, than not to have my doctorate.

Next problem (besides not being able to repay student loans). Finding employment. Top universities that I have applied for faculty positions - won't give me the time of day. Wish I had known then, what I know now!

I have a similar story as those written here. I have been a part of the doctoral program at Walden going on five years now and every year I was vocal about the waste of time with the two years of "coursework" that I learned absolutely nothing. Then starting the project study process I really started noticing the scam beginning. I had three chairs up to this point and after working on just the proposal phase for two years I am going nowhere. I hired an outside publisher to help me through the process but even that is not really helping as much as I thought it would. I am on my third round of proposal approval and one round of URR. I am almost $200,000 in debt with my undergrad and other degree loans. Walden alone is $100,000. I will be glad to be a part of a class action lawsuit!

My story goes like this. I started my Doctorate with Walden in 2008. All went well and my Chair approved my study and I was to start my University Research Review (URR) in December 2011. My chair was then dismissed by the university and I was given a new Chair and a new Second. My second required that I start my study all over. Three years late in 2014 my Chair was about to approve me to start URR again. Then that chair was removed and I again received a new Chair and new Second. The new second was not assigned until about 6 weeks into the class. The very next day my father-in-law died so not much progress was made during that semester. The next semester I was again approved to begin URR and the university dismissed me for lack of progress. I made URR and they call that a lack of progress?! So here I am over $100K in debt, having had my study formally approved twice by two different chairs, yet I have no degree.

My Walden story begins in 2008 and all went well until January 2012. I had just (in December 2011) been approved to begin the URR phase of my doctoral program. Walden dismissed my chair, assigned a new one, and I had to start all over. In 2015, after accruing 3 more years of debt my chair was about ready to approve me to start URR again. Guess what!? They changed my chair again. I stayed with it and was approved to start URR but am now too old and too far in debt to continue at Walden. After 8 years I have nothing but a debt that will not disappear until I am 70.

California has a class action suit. I had similar complaints and wanted to be part of class action suit but at that time there were no suits in Ohio. Someone suggested reporting Walden to the Department of Education. I had hoped these practices would stop at it is 2016 and still persists.

I have had two chairs, 3 second committee members. I was told to use the walden university writing center to get my doctoral study paper APA compliant. I did and my chair said they did a bad job. Each second committee member required 1000's of changes to my document and I made the changes, once complete I would have a new second committee member. I ran out of money using approved APA editors and my document would still get kicked back. This needs to stop, I just want to finish and graduate.

I have 2 classes left before finishing my Masters program in Nonprofit Leadership & Mgt. I have a 3.5CPGA and likely would have higher except they employ some instructors who decide to change the published course curriculum and then grade accordingly. These same instructors act with a GOD complex and that they do not have to follow the published curriculum or rubrics for the assignments. When called on their actions, they refuse to acknowledge the issues and the subsequent impacts. It is clear that this school is only interested in collecting my money, and do not care about the students and the mountain of problems they create as a result. Sign me up for the class action suit!

I decided that I wanted to earn my RN-MSN. It made sense to do it on-line as I worked full-time in nursing and could not imagine having to attend school full-time to do this. Halfway through and tens of thousands of dollars in debt I attempted to see if I could transfer to a school that offered a BSN program. I was told that none of my credits would transfer and I would basically have to start all over. I couldn't see doing that as an option or stopping half way through the degree as I was already in debt. I completed the program with a 4.0 GPA and $75,000 in debt! It appears that the class action case only concerns those in doctoral programs but I just wanted to let you know they have scammed a lot of people in many of their programs.

I don't know where to start so I am going to hope that I am clear in what is going on with hopes this can be rectified. I attended Walden University in 2010-2012, I was not in attendance very long. During the course of being with the university, I was enrolled in a Doctoral program that was for Special Education. This special education program, as I was informed, was based on online learning and a thesis. Being that I was a new mother, this worked best for the needs of my family. Upon enrolling in the program, and after starting courses, I was informed that I would have to attend colloquiums for the program- something that was not informed of me during the time of enrollment by my enrollment counselor, Bev Foster. After discussions with the university and getting the university Ombudsman involved, I was informed that the colloquiums were 1.) required to take for the program and 2.) I was correct that Bev did not inform me appropriately of the demands of this program. I was informed that I could either stay in that program and do the required colloquiums OR transfer to another program that did not have those- myself, me enrollment advisor, and ombudsman did not know what program that would be. I was then put into contact with Miranda Olsen. After further decision and more back and forth with Miranda Olsen, I was informed that NONE of the classes would transfer over to the EDD program which did not have colloquiums in the program. therefore I would have to start from scratch for all of my courses. This was now December 22, 2011. I had already invested a good amount of money into the program and now I was unable to use any of the courses to transfer over to the other program. During this time of trying to figure things out, the system automatically enrolled me in another course (this was supposed to be suspended while this all worked out). In January 4th, 2012 the same day that I started to petitioning being enrolled in the program, I submitted a "Leave of Absence Request" so no further classes were added to my account and so I could figure out what I was going to do. I was also going through a divorce as well as some pretty significant health issues. On March 6, 2012, I emailed the university letting them know I would be changing my program and needed to have the hold removed. I was officially entered into the new program on March 13th, 2012. Mind you, at this point I had not enrolled in any classes in the new program. Issues continued to arise with Walden University and I was unable to get a clear understanding of the new program and continued to work with the Ombudsman. On March 16th, I was informed that 2 classes might be able to transfer over and that I needed to contest this and went through the motions of doing so. On April 3rd, an email from Jenna Gray regarding the new program and the courses that it entailed. Continued email communication back an fourth lead to Jenna Gray enrolling me in a course that started on April 30th, 2012-- still working with the Ombudsman of the University, I was getting no where with the University- I was not getting credit for the majority of courses I had taken and $$ I had spent without it being able to be used towards my degree. I was informed by the Ombudsman to participate some in the courses I was enrolled in while we worked things out as the University was unable to put me on another academic hold while things were figured out. Without getting any support and finalization with the issues I was having, I, in conversations with the Ombudsman, withdrew from Walden University on June 6th, 2012. When I withdrew it was clear understanding and knowledge that due to the issues I had been having with my degree as well as lack of support from the University the withdraw from the University would leave my account at a $0.00 balance and we would amicably go our separate ways. My account remained at a $0.00 balance until September of 2012 when I got notified my account was sent to collections for failure to pay $7,440.00 in tuition fees!!! I contacted the Cedar Financial regarding this was emails, letters, proof that the account was at a $0.00 balance, they said they would look into it. I heard NOTHING. I called Walden and they said they no longer had my account on file and that I needed to speak with the collection agency. A YEAR later, I got another bill from the collection agency for $7,440.00 noting I owe this to Walden. Again I called and EMAILED them all the documentation at which point it was clear that I did not, in fact owe the said amount. They never got back to me. Here we are, 2016, and now I have a collection account on my credit report for Walden University when I have evidence that I was not enrolled in the classes willingly nor did I act alone in withdrawing from the University-- clear communications with the Ombudsman about what was happening and the lack of rectification of this issue was presented.

I am 340,000 in debt to Walden University. They prolonged approval at the dissertation stage at which I time I decided no more student loans. A study should be conducted to remedy these for thousands of students who over the past fifteen years find or found themselves in the same predicament. If this practice continues this Institution of Higher Learning will no longer exist. Pray the White House looks into these predatory practices at Walden University.

Please add me to the Walden Class Action Law Suit! I started Walden's doctoral program in 2007 and now it's 2016. I have a 3.7 GPA in course work completed, all residences completed plus extra, submitted my prospectus waited almost 3 months @ over $4k per quarter to get a URR assigned, wrote my initial proposal- rejected but comments were needs minor changes and organization. As time went on I kept re-submitting and getting comments that just a few more changes. I hired and editor, have paid several hundred dollars to get help and each time I'm told how wonderful the paper is but just make these few changes and you'll move forward. I'm more than $200, 000.00 in debt now government loans and 40,000 in personal loans. I'm 60 years old now and still no degree nor moving pass URR. There has also been instances where the 14 day review period took more than 20 days pushing me into another quarter adding more debt to the already enormous debt. Lies, deception and false hopes is what I've experienced. I have lots of documentation. Please add me to the lawsuit, the legacy I once dreamed of leaving for my children and grandchildren has been destroyed. I'm still waiting for Walden to create a way to remove me from the school or continue to drain me until I can't get another loan to continue. They've told me that if I take a leave of absence, I more than likely can't get back I'm now another $8000 in debt to them trying to complete the Summer session to get pass the URR. They are predators the approval of the proposal process has been going on since 2014 now...See below

Student initial submits Prospectus for committee rubric analysis Nov 10 , 2014

I was enrolled in the Health Psychology PhD program. I attained A scores in all courses except one...I obtained a B. When I started the dissertation process I was given and advisor who had a degree in Sex Therapy and had a vulisyal impairment. I would send her my work product and she would not respond in a timely manne . She would review my document and tell me to revise it. This happened for several semesters and I continued to get student loans to pay for it. I had completed all courses except the dissertation. I feel like she drug the process out over and over. I reached out to a counselor several tines and nonsolutiin was given. Now I am trying to pay back the student loans that I had to obtain to stay in school because I had already paid so much. This was very stressful and I want relief from the student loan debt that I incurred. M J

Any one knows of a law firm interested to start a lawsuit against Walden University?

When I initially went to Walden University in 1997 as a PhD student in Clinical Psychology, it was a much better school. Once purchased by Laureate, and began to follow a strictly business model rather than an academic one, it became the House of Horrors vs. the Halls of Academe. During that transition, there were often grave errors made in administration and finance, no interdepartmental communication, and they were all OVER the place. This resulted in me being erroneously expelled from the school by a high strung female (with less than a Master's Degree) who could not interpret policy and had an ax to grind. After taking some time off to regroup, I wrote the President who re-admitted me and admitted that an egregious error was made and that the person who did that was let go due to her incompetence. Strike 1.

Strike 2: I was given a dissertation chair who was caring and attentive, but who did not follow up, make contact, and would change his mind several times concerning my research topic or method (based on who on the committee did not agree with him). He also became forgetful and could not remember me turning in work. I complained of this for at least 3 quarters of enrollment and nothing was done. One day, I received an e-mail stating that all of his students were being reassigned and that he would not be chair anymore. Needless to say, they did not assist with finding a new chair. Students were left on their own to find a replacement, although many of us were half way through the dissertation process. When attempting to find a chair, I was talked down to, racial remarks were made, and received no assistance from the school. I did find another chair, and was able to add an African American female to my committee (the only non-white faculty I ever encountered during my TWELVE year tenure at the school The chair of my committee died, and the new person was promoted to administration. She dropped me without telling me, when it was assumed erroneously that she was my chair by administration, she wrote an ugly email stating that she was not my chair, and was excusing herself from my committee, and that I would have to find somebody else. She also talked about by research in a very unprofessional manner. The email, strangely, found its way to me by accident. Strike 3!!!

I found a third chair, and soon after she accepted me, she died also--no fault of the school. However, I was left on my own to find another chair. I finally found a good one who was livid about the manner in which I had been treated and how long I had been in school trying to get a dissertation done She was excellent and we forged ahead, finally. This was during the war with Iran. My chair was Iranian and we worked good together. Midway the process, we got an email letting us know that she had been dismissed abruptly and mysteriously, and we would have to find another chair. Again, after committee number 4, we were offered no assistance. I then sent a very inflammatory letter to a person in administration. That person refused to call me as requested and instead had that same new African American lady who had dumped me to call, because they said my letter was considered "terroristic". When I explained why I was upset and read her ugly email back to her, thus implicating her in the dissertation shenanigan, she became apologetic and vowed to get me out of school because what had happened to me was unacceptable and she did not realize I had been in school for longer than a decade. That too was a lie. It didn't happen. I had to get MYSELF out by constantly writing legally threatening letter to various people during Walden's RIDICULOUS dissertation process.

Finally, STRIKE 4, I was charged for 5 quarters for "Continuous Enrollment" while I tried unsuccessfully, on my own, to find a required psychology internship. Walden does not find internships for its Psyc students, but did promise in their handbook to assist and support students in finding their own internships. HUGE LIE. Initially, to get in the PhD clinical program, one had to be working in the field, so I had a full time job teaching psychology at a university and did not work at a mental health institution. Finding an internship was challenging. Walden charged me 850.00 per quarter just to stay enrolled while I shopped around unassisted for an internship. I finally wrote the president again, accusing them of unethically robbing students of tuition when NO instruction was being received. I was allowed, as requested to graduate without the internship, with the promise that I could return after graduation to take the internship course as part of a post doc, in the event I ever found an internship. Asked for it writing, and of course, the language they used in writing was less definitive than what I was promised by phone. Nevertheless, I do have it in writing. Two years post graduation, I found an excellent internship and wrote the then NEW president about my woes at Walden and asked for special admission to take the internship so I could obtain my license to practice. The president deferred to the assistant dean, stating she would honor whatever decision the dean made. She did not bother to look into it, or to even treat me with any dignity, empathy, or any such thing that Walden says they stand for. The Assistant Dean had NO comprehension, and for a year went back and forth with me stating Walden no longer had a post doc, my classes were old anyway, and they had changed the policy so that I could only take Internship if I re-enrolled in the program as though I were a new student (and take the same classes all over--who DOES that?). Therefore, I have a PhD in psychology that is of NO clinical use that it took me TWELVE years to get. I have HUGE mountains of amassed debt due to exorbitant fees, tuition over 12 years, and interest on the loans that I have to constantly get forbearances for. Did I mention, I cannot get good jobs because I do not have a license, cannot teach clinical courses at the university anymore because of no license, and Walden will not grandfather me in or make good on their promise??? They are a rip off school, that is JUST a business, NOT an academic institution. Walden strikes OUT! They NEED to be sued!

I have many of the complaints as most of collogues. I entered Walden University 2011, did very well through the course work and earned 4.0. Once I entered the doctorial program (5 stages to complete) its been one disaster after another. Assigned to a verbally abusive professor and proving derogatory statement were made through email and phone conferencing, I was transferred to another professor. Unfortunately the first abusive professor is the "head" of the department and over sees everyone. Therefore, not a lot changed except the second refused to speak with me without a committee and he is always "super" nice without productive feedback. After 3 months in the first stage, he sent me an email to move forward ....task stream had passed my prospectus with 3/5 points. Only to receive an email 4 weeks into the course 2nd stage that stated the "committee" my previous professor said I did not pass. Eventually, he gave me a U I had to take off a semester and fight to get back in. Returning 6 months later, I hired a professor on a doctorial committee in another state to review my prospectus- she did and stated there were a few errors that needed corrections . For 12 weeks the Walden professor returned my paper with "minor" problems and stated major improvements....etc. Ten days prior to the semester ending I submitted my paper, it was not returned until 5 days AFTER the course ended stating I received another U and I should rewrite my entire paper. I also have a problem with the course survey that MUST be completed 5 days prior to the course ending or you will not get a grade. I was told they are confidential, but I know for a fact that the professors do reading them prior to grading. 5 years in I have run out of money and still no degree.

Please let me know if there is in fact a class action law suit against Walden University. I too began the EdD process in 2008. When I began working on the dissertation, my initial 1st Chair person fell off the face of the earth after 2 semesters, and 2 weeks into the 3rd semester, the head of the department began asking us questions of this Chair person's whereabouts. Within the next 2 weeks, we were added to another Chair person's caseload. She didn't approve of the proposal I had already completely (nearly) established with the missing Chair person. So, I began with a completely new topic. I never received positive feedback and she refused to talk to me until I had completed the 1st section. Well, after 3 semesters with her, I requested a new Chair. Denied. So, I took a 6 month break. Upon returning, same Chair person. After 1&1/2 semesters more with her, they finally granted me another Chair person. This Chair person loved my new (3rd) topic and we worked for 18 months to finally get to the URR. The URR loved the proposal, gave feedback and I worked for 4 weeks to revise and resubmit. When I resubmitted, I was informed I had a new URR. Then 2 weeks later I was informed I had yet another new URR. This 3rd URR person finally after 33 days returned the proposal with over 300 negative comments. My Chair quit and they gave me a 4th Chair person and another new URR. I cannot do this anymore. This is ridiculous. I have read a lot of these complaints and they are having the same pattern. This is gross malpractice. Students have to organize through whatever digital means are available and begin to
1. Warn others
2. Get their legislators and government involved
3. Begin a boycott not only of the University but of all the major stakeholder in this university. This scam must not continue.

My friend has just shared with me many of the complaints that I am reading! This is terrible. I will be telling my teachers union about this as they should not even accept Walden advertisements in their magazine. Stay strong and maybe you can all have a lawsuit against Walden for doing this. Thank goodness for sites like this! I think she felt she was all alone!!

I am a Doctoral Student Consultant and have been working with a Doctoral student at Walden University. We have been working together for the past 7 years and still haven't gotten anything accomplished. She is now on her 3rd chair who mistakenly sent an ugly email to her which was meant for another colleague of his. In the email to the colleague, the chair suggested that he should probably dissuade the student from continuing since she has reached her 8th year and is a poor writer. What kind of chair says that about a student? As a partner in this with my student, I deeply disgusted and my student is heartbroken. If there is a lawsuit pending against them and you have a good lawyer, please pass their information along.
