Misleading; Hard to cancel; terrible customer service
I am a relatively happy Westgate timeshare owner but was interested in investigating the "Westgate Cruise and Travel" Club (ICE-- International Cruise and Excursions) so I would have more options to use my deposited timeshare weeks. I was hoping to look at their options offered before paying for the membership. I was told I could only look at the options after I signed up. After assurance that I could get my money back within ten days of signing up/paying the $249 fee, I looked into it. After being on hold for 70 minutes to talk to a live person, I learned a few things that were not disclosed previously: First, since my banked weeks are deposited with my Westgate timeshare organization, I would have to pay $150 to get each week transferred into the Westgate Cruise and Travel Club. (The two companies are not as linked as I had thought.) Second, I thought I could use my banked 2-bedroom timeshare week to get similar unit somewhere else. However, giving WC&T my timeshare weeks would only get me DISCOUNTS on booking other hotels or resorts. Third, the fantastic discounts they feature are not as hard to get as they imply. There are many promotional travel sites online that offer terrific deals without having to pay a yearly membership fee.
So, I called the representative back to cancel my account. He said it takes 7-10 business days to cancel the account, and up to 30 days to get a refund. It has been 20 days since I cancelled, and my account is STILL active and there has still not been a refund, even after calling a couple times to check on this. Fortunately, my credit card is not holding me accountable for this charge. I do NOT recommend using Westgate Cruise and Travel Club or International Cruise and Excursions!!
