My parents purchased a Timeshare from Wyndham/ Fairfield resorts almost 20 years ago. They purchased the unit for $10,000 cash, even week only. My father spent a fortune trying to sell it for years with every scam artist timeshare sales company to no avail. Upon his death in 2001, my mother was left with this headache, exorbitant maintenance fees & of course RCI (an additional rip off with more fees & incessant phone calls to my mother). In addition, every time my father tried to book a week at another resort, it was never available! To add more "salt on the wound", when hurricane Wilma hit Florida, the unit was unavailable for several years even though the maintenance fees were still charged along with a "Special Assessment". I tried everything I could to sell this Wyndham Santa Barbara unit just to stop my mother's constant complaining about incessant phone calls & mail from both RCI & Wyndham/Fairfied Resorts/Cendant. I finally had the Deed changed, removing my deceased father & adding myself with my mother. I realized RCI, also owned by Cendant, was just a third party broker, never able to perform the services promised or secure a comparable quality unit any where or on any occasion requested. And their fees were incredible! Have rented it a few times & Wyndham takes half. My point being, why is there no way to get rid of this & why hasn't the Attorney General in FL put a stop to this???
