scam scam scam scam did I say scam?

This website sucks.

I believe that there may be some legitimate listings on here, but there is so much garbage that you'd have to wade through in order to find them.

I got the Craigslist "Bait and Switch" that many other people have commented about. I was browsing for rooms on Craigslist, and I saw some listings that looked really great. I contacted them through the Craigslist email link (as they did not provide any personal email or phone number). I got back an automated reply (from all 3 of the listings) that told me to click the tiny url link, which redirected me to roomster. So I would click the link and it would take me to the home page, and tell me that I needed to create an account/sign-in. So I do that, and then it loads in the listings in my area, but I don't see anything like the ones I saw on CL.

Then, there's a messages icon at the top of the website. I click on it to try to read my messages, and then it tells me that I need to pay in order to see them.

So I did. T_T

Then, when I was able to see the message I had received (I got 3 of them) but none of them were from the people I contacted, and none were even in my budget range. I was just spam that had nothing to do with what I was looking for. So then, I go back to the emails I got back from the CL listers, and I figure that now that I have an account set up, if I click the link it would take me to the listing, and not just the homepage.

But nope- I get redirected to the homepage every time, and then it would load into the same results that had nothing to do with what I was looking for, like they showed me before.

So, not only were the CL listings fake, I was out $7.95 for the 5 day trail they offer you, in order to read the messages.

So I'm befuddled, and I go to Google to see if anyone else has problems with this site.

WELL IT TURNS OUT that this is a common thing. People are lured from Craigslist to roomster, and then they pay the $7.95, only to find out that the CL post was fake. It's a scam and a racket.

And then they do this things where after you sign up for the 5 day trial ($7.95), after 5 days, they automatically bill you for the monthly membership ($24.95). This detail is mentioned in the teeny-tiny fine print, but it's not made completely apparent.

Good thing I read the reviews and cancelled my membership before THAT happened.

Ugh.

Roomster

There are people who rent rooms, that do not involve Roomster. They charge a finders fee. I don't need the extra expense. Total BS, I wish they would be shut down, I apply for a rental. They send me the link. I tell them , You just lost a good tenant.

FRAUDULENT WEBSITE

Don't waste your time or money. None of the ads for rooms are real. They are all fake. I tried to contact several people that advertised rooms, but most of them responded by referring me to a link for Roomster's homepage. Or I would receive an email from somebody asking me if I was interested in a room, but when I responded back to them they never responded back to me. It took me a full day to figure out that their entire site is based on fake ads for rooms that don't exist. It's a scam designed to take your money and give you nothing in return.

I reported them to the FCC and PUC. Hopefully the will be shutdown and thrown in jail.

Fake craigslist ads from roomster

I was foolish to reply to a "room for rent" craigslist ad that did not have a phone number.
I sent an email message to the anonymous craigslist email address displayed on the ad, where I included my phone number.
It turns out it was roomster spam, and I start getting spam SMS messages on my phone to register on their website.

Bullshit, Fraudulent & Waste

Roomster is big scam. They are wasting both ppls money and time. Stupid creators of this site are ruthless criminals. They are blinded by the money, I don't understand why their site is still running and valid after all these deception of innocent people. If I had the power I would have immediately banned their website and charged them for all the fraudulent activity happening and happened.

Shame on them for running such a site, the money that they earn through this type of activity is poison to them.

Dumb dumb dumb

To Whom it May Concern,

I am quite discouraged and offended with your site/app roomster.com. The only people who can partake in roomster.com is people with facebook accounts. What do you do if you don't have a facebook account? It legit is discriminatory and will only be a matter of time before your poorly thought out website/app is sued. If not that, the idea alone cuts out half of the potential customer base and is solumly because we don't have a facebook account. Stupid, stupid, wow, wow, HAAAAH..stupid! Expenential growth is very much limited there geniuses.

From the start now, I have no further interest in ever using roomster.com. It is offensive, discouraging, an immediate insult and turn off. The lack of respect I have only ensures my decision to not trust or ever use such a ill planned, poorly developed and limiting site like yours. Not to mention that it is super sketchy. Scamming people with a sense of security because it is connected through facebook is false advertisement, a lawsuit waiting to happen and did I mention incredibly dumb? Where's the accredited proof of security? What's being used to back up the screening to prove the person is in fact a human. Facebook doesn't have the best reputation with providing and ensuring solid, trusted or acredited security for all users and their information. Nor for verifying and guaranteeing a person is real or a robot. Facebook does not have anyone's security in mind, in fact, it's the opposite. All they are concerned about is how to make more money, which is one of the many sketchy factors about facebook. The facts are obvious and it does not take a genius to see it. I mean come onnn, they have open ongoing lawsuits right now and have a handful of class action lawsuits filed against them, all closed and ending in a loss for legit and practical reasons! I suggest rethinking/redeveloping your biased, discriminating, misleading, superficial, set up to fail, potential law suite, of an enrolling/registering process before it's too late and just a waste of time and money. Who knows?.. it may already be too late.

Roomster

Roomster representatives will hijack Craigslist ads and then send repliers to sign up for their website instead of sending real information about the listing. At least advertise your own listings to draw in customers instead of copying/stealing other peoples' ads!

A TOTAL SCAM!!!

Do you like wasting your time and money? Well, roomster is the app for you because it takes care of both of those things!

Apple: PLEASE look into these reviews. Many of them read like bots, not people. It's important for the app stores credibility to weed out fake reviews. It's certainly suspect that reviews are largely either one star or 5 stars with very little in between.

Let me tell you what this app is really like: you get messages from people who aren't in your price range, people who aren't in your area, people who don't match preferences (private bath etc.). In two months of having this ridiculous app I don't think I had a single meaningful interaction with anyone.

Instead, I ended up getting messages from people that aren't candidates and I end up messaging people who never write back. This is either because they are profiles who have not upgraded, they are old profiles or they are fake profiles. This app is a waste of time and money.

Which brings me to my next point. The only thing I got from the dumb app was a severe headache. The app is misleading and leads its customers to believe that the subscription has ended. Under billing is says there are no future billing dates. However, watch closely because there ARE future billing dates and getting a refund is a total joke. Try calling their offices and you get a recorded message that says communicate through the app then hangs up on you.

It is my personal opinion that this company's survival depends on people being charged for something they didn't want. It's not a sustainable model because eventually people will figure this out. However, until then I passionately urge to you avoid this app at all cost...unless of course you like wasting your time and money!

Roomster is a scam app

These people have so many fake dream home adverts in other pages such as Craigslist that all prompt you to subscribe to this app in order to communicate with them. Most of the adverts in this app are also fake or scam. The problem with their business is not automatic renewal as this is clearly mentioned and you may cancel auto subscription, but the issue is huge volum of scam attempts done in their app. Most of the good looking adverts are fake or scam. Moreover, the way these people get you to this app is also deceitfully. Just beware and don’t throw out your money.

They Scammed Me

I feel like an idiot for not looking at reviews for this site sooner. Their practices to get people to sign up are nothing but frauds posting fake rooms on Craigslist that look appealing, but when you try to contact the owner they always tell you to "apply here" or "sign up here", then when I did the property wasn't even there and the supposed owners never responded to any more of my messages. And on top of that I'll get all these email notifications that people have messaged me and half the time those aren't even real either! And on the chance I actually see anything I'd be interested in renting, a majority of time I'll send a message out to owners and they don't even respond.

Scam

This app provides confusing instructions regarding the trial period and the automatic $45 charge that follows immediately after. They are intentionally confusing in their presentation of how to avoid the charge. They imply if you delete your account, you will not be required to pay said fee, BUT when you try to do this it says you are unable to delete account until membership has concluded. After the fact, I realized they outline these fine points in the small print, but it's their approach that is misleading, shady and bad business practice. I will go out of my way to deter my many college-aged and young professional friends from ever using this app or service.

Worst site ever

First of all, it forces you to use your Facebook. Secondly, it only lets you respond to messages if you upgrade. So, upon seeing that I had messaged with someone who seemed decent, I did the five dollar trial for a few days. What they don't tell you is that they charge you, without confirming permission for this or reminding you that your account trial expires, renew the plan for twenty-five dollars. They also make it impossible to cancel your subscription with them. The shitty help center tells you to just 'do it through your PayPal' despite the fact that there's a link through the settings on the site. Furthermore, since this was the day it billed, when I asked for a refund since I was trying to cancel my subscription I never agreed to, the customer service just sent back rude replies.

Avoid Roomster

I joined roomster as I wanted to expand my reach for prospects to rent out my room beyond my Craigslist listing. I paid the roomster fee which gave me access to a page where you can search for individuals looking for a room. This page offers various filters such as location, minimum rent, male/female, etc. Sounds all good right? Well after having spent hours finding over 30 prospects and sending each a "chat" e-mail, I did not receive a single response from anyone - black hole? So I contacted their Support e-mail hotline outlining the situation. I was curious if a) nobody was interested in my room who matched the exact search criteria, b) if the roomster tool simply did not work, c) unless the recipient paid the fees they would not be able to link back to my room offering page. Support hotline response would not comment on c) but simply said they cannot force individuals to respond back. Well true, but after reading the various reviews on this site it is clear c) applies. This is a useless site and I suggest you do not waist your $$. I guess all we are left with is Craigslist which at least is honest.
