This was disappointing. It being the History Channel, I expected to to learn something. I thought it was going to be a movie dramatization of a true story; instead, it is fiction in the form of a documentary. Documentaries are interesting to watch only in the factual nature of their content. But fiction told as a documentary? Puh-leeze.

As I tend to do when watching factual shows, to broaden what I expected to be something learned, I googled Dr Spencer and the Algerian desert and got only criticism of this documentary--a lot of angry, annoyed, and disappointed people. I did not get as a result anything at all about a real Dr. Spencer who did such work in Algeria.

As another post stated, with producing fiction as fact and gearing the station toward more sensational type shows, the History Channel lost credibility with me. How unfortunate. I think I'll stick to PBS.

I used to LOVE the History, Discovery and Animal Planet shows. They were the first place I went to to watch TV, only watching other channels when I'd already seen a program or didn't care for the content.

After watching a half hour of the Devil's Graveyard, I think I can honestly give up cable completely and just stick to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime online shows. And if you want your children to Learn something ... have them stick to books as these channels are now - Rewritten History Channel, The Discovery of Absolutely Nothing and Planned Animal Planet shows.

Sad.

As a huge fan of history, in particular of the American Revolutionary War, I was thrilled when I realized that The History Channel was releasing a program on The Revolution titled 'Sons of Liberty'. However, when I sat down to watch it I had to go back and check facts about certain details (large and small), and usually discovered them to have been altered or erased by the HC 'historical drama'. At first I allowed myself only to be slightly upset by this, but the more that I watched, the more I was given cause for extreme disappointment and indignation. Not only are historical events painted wrongly, but the characters themselves are tainted. Those famous historical figures who were so imperative in The War, and who were factually virtuous and good and held in the highest moral esteem by almost everybody, are slandered and demoralized in the Sons of Liberty program. Anyone viewing this show who does not know our country's history would assume that it was founded on immorality! That religion and morality had no place in it. This is and never was the case. The USA did not flourish and grow through unethical men and women, but through honest, principled people who believed in the common good over their own immediate good, and who sacrificed everything that they had. The History Channel seems to be seeking to destroy and rewrite the history of the United States of America from its foundation upward. Dramatically, yes, to some this show is entertaining; but the ruin it enacts on the people who watch it, most especially our children, far outweighs the delight found in this diversion. George Santayana said that "Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it.". Are we truly so careless as to allow our country's history to be changed so easily that our young grow up to make the same mistakes that the old did because they were not properly taught the past? We are setting ourselves up for failure. To think that we live in an age where instead of assisting in the growth of our country by using one of its most popular devices for entertainment, we hinder and stint it. The History Channel could be the most educational and enriching channel on TV, but instead it opts for monetary gain and relies on the ignorance of people to fund its programming. Again I say, we set ourselves and our country up for failure.

As I watched the America Unearthed Devils' Graveyard episode I started getting that familiar feeling like I was watching the fake Mermaid episode on Animal Planet. I guess the Discovery Network is only interested in producing the worst Weekly World News sensational fiction. People in this comment section talk about Boycotting the History channel, but it's now spread throughout the entire Discovery Network. A one second flash of a disclaimer at the end of the show, that is even too short to be a subliminal message, makes it even worse. They know it's baloney and act like it's ok. They stuff their shows with so many commercials it becomes impossible to continue watching 1 episode of anything. When will they just take the plunge and become a 24 hour "all commercials all the time" content provider? I was a little miffed at the Mermaid episode but I let that go. Apparently they sold a bunch of commercial time so it's good for their pockets. Content isn't important to them anymore. If you want them to change the channel and stay away for a while. Maybe a few months. Help them to understand we watch to learn not to have fake "documentaries" foisted off on us with a flash of a disclaimer at the end that basically says "Ha Ha, fooled you! We were just kidding" Please don't watch any discovery channel for 1 month. Let their ratings plummet. Heads will roll. Just my opinion.

Devils graveyard is by far one of the worst "documentaries" I have ever wasted my time with. I googled a few things in the beginning but did not google it with the word fake in it. I completely wasted 2 hours of my life that I cannot get back. With the increasing of population and that populations iq dropping significantly I can see many people thinking this is real. There should have been a disclaimer in the beginning that explained it was fiction and if you watched it you would in fact loose 2 hours of precious time and in fact drop at least 5 iq points!

I agree with everyone complaining.HOWEVER,the History Channel ( HC) will not change.Do you know why? Follow the MONEY! Go with the MONEY? You see, you American consumers, are ignorant and uneducated, which makes all of you perfect targets for the sponsors (commercials) that PAY the H.C. MONEY.The "powers that be" at H.C.can pick and choose which commercials to run based on all the other "crap" on TV that ignorant people watch.That way its easy to pick commercials. Hence easy MONEY. Think about it.............

I think I'm more curious about how does one get to produce a film like this and who within your organization allows it to be produced. I would hope that someone in your executive leadership or someone withinn your organization would call "BS" before you publicize something that should be meant for Jerry Springer.

In a nutshell, America Unearthed is disgusting. It was amusing for a brief time watching the host bumble his way through pseudo facts and barely believable legends, until I realized when his search takes him to reality he decides to ignore it. Watch the Davy Crocket episode. He interviews experts, ALL of whom present historical fact and analysis, and in the end he concludes Davy survived the Alamo anyway. At least along the way he comes across farmers who have the sense to google him and deny him access to their land. The sad thing is, the guy finds this bewildering, saying, see? This happens all the time. Ugh. History channel, either change your name or put a disclaimer on this nutshow. "This show is not history unless you also believe Ancient Aliens held Building With Rock 101 classes around the world." Wait, shows that presume we humans are too stupid to have made our own achievements..ugh, don't get me started.

I watched the Devil's Graveyard on H2 last night and was disgusted by it. Completely fake documentary. Sadly, like all other cable channels we are bombarded by insurance commercial after commercial. History my ass.

The credibility of The History Channel just took the biggest hit of all with this farce of a presentation. It was so obviously staged..is a complete lie with no documentation anywhere to back up the supposed deaths of the so-called doctors and scientists.
This is the ultimate challenge of trust of viewers that The History Channel is legitimate. At the very least, it should have been prefaced as :for entertainment only"...not portrayed as 'real' event. The internet is abuzz with the sham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent a very long time watching a show I believed to be a documentary and found out it was a fake dramatization. The two second flash notice at the END of the program was too fast for the human eye to even see.

I will be telling everyone I know to completely boycott your bogus station. I'm not sure who bought you several years ago, you used to present some amazing accounts of actual history. Now all you present is pseudo science meant for pure entertainment purposes. So change your name - because you certainly aren't presenting real history!

This used to be my favorite channel on tv.loved shows about actual history and different wars and battles.Ancient Aliens and UFO Hunters are awesome shows but i never get to watch them anymore.they should change the name to Pawn Stars Channel.thats all they show almost every freakin day.especially on the weekend when i have time to watch its on all day saturday and sunday.im so sick of that damn show.watching them lie and cheat people out of their things.i understand they need to make a profit but theyre flat out ripping people off.its went down hill last few years.programming suxs.

How much is enough advertising of upcoming shows??? The most recent junk is the "countdown" on the upper right corner for the stupid show VIKINGS. Now I might have wanted to see that show...MAYBE but after having it crammed down my throat blocking my view of what I WAS WATCHING....I have had enough of it already. Just out of sheer aggravation and being forced to look at that along with tweets and upcoming shows advertising briefly during a show I am watching and the stupid icons on the bottom of the screen...when does it stop. I PAY TO WATCH TV. I notice they do not put their own "junk" up when the sponsors are running their ads....oh, no, that would not be a good idea. Well, we should let them know it is not a good idea when we are trying to watch something ELSE besides their logo, tweets, upcoming show flash ads and now THIS STUPID HONKING COUNTDOWN CLOCK WITH THE LOGO FOR THE SHOW ON IT. Oh, and let us not forget the "letterbox format" they show most of their shows in which gyps you out of 1/3 of the screen too. Linda R.

I watched a show this morning called Bible Battles, that had a prejudiced author called Richard A. Gabriel, (Military History of Ancient Israel). He was disgusting & clearly prejudiced against Israel. The History Ch. showed horrible battle scenes that made the Israelites look like barbarians, instead of portraying them as people being lead by God & killing people mercifully wiping evil from the land, that He gave them ! They barely showed any scripture !!! The title was "Bible Battles" !!! This isn't the first time I saw this slighted view of God's people on this channel. They are clearly, anti-God & anti-Semitic & their shows are full of hate against God's people & misleading a multitude of people.
Filing complaints against them w/the FCC, is probably the best way to go. Hate crime ? You bet ! Against God & His people. Pray that the deception is revealed. Also, write & call their public address of record (I have yet to find this). Take a stand against evil, like God says to.

Yes the history channel should not be allowed to call itself the history channel...this is what is wrong with america today. people watching canned "reality tv" lousey actors and lousy plot lines...its not history! i dont get it. those retards then behave like the tards on those shows in real life...and my god we live in a society of retards.
